Publisher's Summary

The Tales of the Otori does for medieval Japan what Game of Thrones does for medieval Europe.

The bitter struggles of the Tribe and the clans have left many children orphaned. Among them are Sunaomi and Chikara, sons of Arai Zenko, who face death after their parents' treachery. Their aunt, Kaede, is able to save their lives on the condition they become novice monks and never leave the temple at Terayama.

Sunaomi has been brought up as a warrior, yet his grandmother is Muto Shizuka. He cannot escape that he is also a child of the Tribe. As he discovers unimagined talents within himself he comes up against Hisao, Takeo's son, the ghostmaster, as well as Saga Hideki, the most powerful warlord in the realm, the Emperor's General.

Taking place in the magical medieval world of Tales of the Otori, Orphan Warriors is a coming-of-age adventure story in a human world of courage and sacrifice behind which always hovers a supernatural world of danger and dread.

Amazing book!

Where do I even begin?

I stumbled across this book. I was checking out all the new releases, listening to narrators and told myself the first non-american accent I would check out (I don't want to listen to western narrators). This was the first one, cover looked great, narrator sounded awesome, so I purchased it AND I AM SO GLAD I DID!!!

What an awesome unique story. Very well written and different than most fantasy. So so good! It has definitely made a new place in my top 5 all time favorite books. There were a few parts in the story where it seemed to jump a bit and I wasn't sure what was going on for a quick second, but it was really a minor detail.

The narrator is great as well. I am always looking for new narrators with foriegn (to me) accents. I will not purchase any fantasy novel that has north american voices (take note publishers). They just do not jive well with fantasy novels (unless the story has specific north american storylines). I typically look for books by narrator and not by author. If a favorite narrator has a new book out, I buy the book because I like the narrator. This narrator just made it to my favorite list.
