Story
Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city - a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent - but he's one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music.

Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell's possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift, and into Black London. In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt.

Story
It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his 18th year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Story
Kell is one of the last Travelers - magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes. As such, he can choose where he lands. There's Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there's Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. There's White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Publisher's Summary
A New York Times bestseller
The bestselling sequel—and conclusion—to Victoria Schwab’s instant #1 New York Times bestseller This Savage Song.
Kate Harker is a girl who isn’t afraid of the dark. She’s a girl who hunts monsters. And she’s good at it. August Flynn is a monster who can never be human. No matter how much he once yearned for it. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.
Nearly six months after Kate and August were first thrown together, the war between the monsters and the humans is a terrifying reality. In Verity, August has become the leader he never wished to be, and in Prosperity, Kate has become the ruthless hunter she knew she could be. When a new monster emerges from the shadows—one who feeds on chaos and brings out its victim’s inner demons—it lures Kate home, where she finds more than she bargained for. She’ll face a monster she thought she killed, a boy she thought she knew, and a demon all her own.
A gorgeously written dark fantasy from New York Times–bestselling author Victoria Schwab, and one to hand to fans of Holly Black, Laini Taylor, and Maggie Stiefvater.

Better then This Savage Song!
I want to start by saying that I did not enjoy This Savage Song. I found the story to be underwhelming and lacked character development throughout the book. I also found the first book to be a slow read and by the end of the book, I was not invested in either the story or the characters. With that being said, I heard that the ending to Our Dark Duet was a beautiful way to end the Duology and was well worth the read. As a result, I decided to listen to the second book.
I would say that the character development I felt was lacking in this Savage song was delivered beautifully in Our Dark Duet. By the end of Our Dark Duet, I felt invested in the story and its characters which was something I hadn't felt in the first book. I would also argue that the second book is much faster paced and held my attention significantly more than the first book. Our Dark Duet is a much more complex story then This Savage song. In the second book, there is major character development and the plot is a lot more fast-paced and intriguing. The world Schwab has created is unique and creative. As a result, I would say that if you did not enjoy the first book then I would still give the second book a try. The way I see it is This Savage Song is world-building, info-dumping and setting the scene for Our Dark Duet. The real story of Kate and August takes off in Our Dark Duet. Therefore, I would say Our Dark Duet is worth reading. I initially didn't find Schwab's writing to be great however, I am going to pick up another book by her because of Our Dark Duet.

Why Kate!
August is still tortured but stronger. Kate is still a badass but even more so. Ilsa is still alive!!!!! (yay! 😁) And this piece of shit Sloan hasn't died off yet (ugh!) . . . At least when the story begins. I didn't like the outcome for a few important characters but I can admit their outcomes made it a better story.

Dragged down by complete lack of light, fun, hope
What a downer. Kate and August travel separate paths in separate lands for the first half of this book, surrounded by forgettable supporting characters. Meanwhile the big bad and his number two are ridiculously evil to the point where it’s not credible to think any humans would join them. For that matter, there’s never a satisfying rationale as to why humans ally with August and the other Sunai. There are only one-note characters …and that note is darkness. There’s no humor, no sweetness, no light. And, when the basic premise is that monsters are born when humans kill, there’s no hope for humanity either.

Not as enjoyable as the first book for me
I can’t get into it much without spoiling it but I’ll just say I didn’t enjoy the plot of this book as much as I enjoyed the first book. The pacing was a bit slow for me and I had a few problems with the way it ended. Overall, it was still a good listen.

Amazing Finish!
These books are so special! They are sad, action packed, terrifying, and brutally honest. The narrator was amazing! She held the sharpness and sarcasm, it really made the story better! Our Dark Duet was even better than the first! Despite breaking my heart into tiny pieces, I enjoyed this! Both August and Kate grew so much! The ending was hear wrenching but final. Even the sad stuff was done so well, I wasn’t mad. My only complaint is the ending let some doors wide open. However, I’m so glad I finally finished this series!

Unenticing start spirals to a biting grip mid-book
The beginning of Our Dark Duet left me struggling to get through, and thinking the magic had been lost in Schwab's tight storytelling. However, the shallow storytelling and slow plot pick up around the middle of the book and keeps you hooked until the end, fleshing out what felt missing in the beginning section and bringing more understanding and lore. Worthwhile read and great narrator.

What The . . . . Just Happened ?
Victoria Schwab is one of the most amaZing writers. I love everything she puts out. But I will admit that this particular story, Killed Me. Never has she made me cry, so saddened by the out come. This book has it all and if you don't fall in love with most of the characters, you're heartless yourself. I hate spoilers , just know this was minimal in romance, but heavy on the heart and does tug on your heart strings - it rips your heart out and devours it with one bite. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Frustrated.
I really liked the 1st book in this series. Was so excited for the second.......
I really felt that the author just took the most difficult route to finish the book. It took so long for the meeting, then it was so anticlimactic. I really wish she would have wrote this story a lot differently. Not sure if she was in a hurry or what, but it was very disappointing.

Excellent Continuation
Spoilers for This Savage Song but not this book:
This second book has a lot to offer in terms of character exploration. It continues to explore the motif of who we want to be versus who we are. It stays interesting by seriously developing Kate and August in some (potentially) unexpected ways. I love them even more in this book because their struggles are more nuanced and their choices more meaningful. There's always room to grow and this book does an excellent job going into that.
I rate this book highly because I consider Kate and August the core of this book, and they were handled well. However, I'm not a fan of YA in general, so I could nitpick a lot of things that made the story weaker for me. Like how uninteresting the villains are. There's an interesting chaotic element that the villains and heroes are both looking for, which is fun, and I would've enjoyed seeing that develop a lot more instead of all the time we spend with Mr. Evil McEvilson. But still, I think the protagonists are compelling enough that it's not a deal breaker for me.
This story is less structured than the first, so I can understand why some don't like it. But I think that loosens the story up enough for some interesting concept exploration. So, I definitely recommend giving this book a try.
