Publisher's Summary

Revenge and resurrection in a frozen wasteland!

Drizzt and Catti-brie have been away from Mithral Hall for six long years, but the pain of a lost companion still weighs heavily on their strong shoulders. Chasing pirates aboard Captain Deudermont's Sea Sprite is enough to draw their attention away from their grief. Then a mysterious castaway on an uncharted island sends them back to the very source of their pain, and into the clutches of a demon with vengeance on his mind.

An epic quest a la EQ

Great story, reminds me of Everquest, a riddle that starts an epic quest, follow and protect a character that won't defend itself, an epic battle with no loot :(

been there done that

redundant and repetative this book doesn't do anything interesting or groundbreaking that hasn't been done in previous books. instead it opts to recycle plotlines near verbatim and undo some of the truly shocking portions of the sereies. every plotpoint can be guessed as it is revealed. and the stories big surprise is so glaringly obvious you will say "well no shit" when it is actually revealed. The worst book in the series thus far.

The Crystal Shard is back!

Drizzt and Catti-brie have left Mithral Hall, feeling they no longer belong there. They have spent the last six years fighting pirates along the Sword Coast with Captain Deudermont.

Ertu goes to great lengths to try to get Drizzt to call him back to the prime material plane, first sending him on wild voyages all over the southern seas. He has a witch memorize a prophecy to recite to Drizzt and his friends that implies that there is a way he can rescue his father. But that’s not who Ertu has been holding prisoner all these years.

They are sent back to Icewind Dale where they met and where the demon, Ertu, and the newly rediscovered crystal shard, Crenshinibon, have gotten together to lay a trap for them. But when they arrive in Icewind Dale, they find that most of their friends have returned there as well. So the odds are not as much against them as Ertu would like.

My favorite part of the story was where the two wizards were having the contest of magic to see which one could defeat more of the zombies when they first arrived at the witch’s island.

Is the narrator in a hurry? Did he ever pause?

Maybe it's the editing. But I felt out of breath just listening ... returning without finishing
