When the people she serves betray her into servitude to the Trateri, a barbarian horde sweeping through the Lowlands intent on conquest, Shea relies on her wits and skill to escape, disguising herself as a boy to hide from the Warlord, a man as dangerous as he is compelling. After being mistaken as a Trateri scout during her escape, Shea finds herself forced to choose between the life she led and the possibilities of a new one. Her decision might mean the difference between life and death. For danger looms on the horizon, and a partnership with the Warlord may be the only thing preventing the destruction of everything she holds dear.

the characters are very interesting and the world has a lot of potential. I'm curious what happened in the past to leave it in the state it was in at the beginning of the book. I look forward to reading more of the series

Not terrible. Too long and a bit to much explained to the reader. I’m guessing first or early work of author?

Liked the main character. Somewhat frustrating how they seem to cause half their own problems, but she has a character flaw that is well established and got me pulled into the story.

I WAS really enjoying the book. Until suddenly there’s a XXX scene. Kinda out of nowhere. Then the book resumes but it kinda lost its cohesiveness. Until the 2nd XXX scene. It ends ok, but the NSFW has put me off anything by this author or narrator and now I can’t recommend this to my friends or family.

Cool story but NSFW and ruined because of it.

DNF. Got more than ten hours in and was really enjoying the story.. until the male lead had to make a return.

There is zero chemistry between the FMC and MMC, he’s a creep. There was so much character building with the other men in the camp, and then the leads getting together was just shoved in there and it’s supposed to work because he’s handsome? We’re supposed to believe the FMC just all of a sudden decides to give in to someone who has disregarded her agency and autonomy at every turn?

I wish she’d left him to get eaten by freaky spider beasts.

The MMC sucks and I wish he’d died.

Loved the characters, strong but not arrogant. Excellent world building without to much discussion to the point of boredom.
