Peele Castle and other Poems
By William Wordsworth
Collected and edited by Evan Blackmore
Read by Evan and Marie Blackmore
This collection of classic poems of compassion and consolation on various subjects ranges from Wordsworth’s own bereavements to hardships faced by people in other times and other places.
The breadth and depth of Wordsworth’s feelings went far beyond his own personal experience. When he looked back at other times—at the troubles of the Reformation or the religious persecutions under Charles II—he thought of the many different people who were affected, and felt for them all. And when he travelled to other places—for instance, when he travelled through Scotland, and wrote the poems collected in Yarrow Revisited — his mind lingered in the dwellings and the ruins, and felt for the people who had lived there too.
