Story
Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline, and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl - but that’s just what happens with visitor Avery Greer and Littleport resident Sadie Loman. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable - until Sadie is found dead.

Story
Ten years ago, Abigail Lovett fell into a job she loves, managing The Passage Inn, a cozy, upscale resort nestled in the North Carolina mountain town of Cutter’s Pass. Cutter’s Pass is best known for its outdoor offerings—rafting and hiking, with access to the Appalachian trail by way of a gorgeous waterfall—and its mysterious history. As the book begins, the string of unsolved disappearances that has haunted the town is once again thrust into the spotlight when journalist Landon West, who was staying at the inn to investigate the story, then disappears himself.

When Edie’s body was found near a suicide note at the end of a long, drunken night, grief, shock, and resentment scattered the group. A decade later, Lindsay has come a long way. She has devoted friends, a cozy apartment, and a thriving career as a magazine’s head fact-checker. When Owusu sends the evidence for examination, he learns the bones are connected to a cold case that left three people dead on the kitchen floor in a Chelsea mansion thirty years ago. Publisher's Summary
In the masterful follow-up to the runaway hit All the Missing Girls - "think: Luckiest Girl Alive, The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl" (TheSkimm) - a journalist sets out to find a missing friend, a friend who may never have existed at all.
Confronted by a restraining order and the threat of a lawsuit, failed journalist Leah Stevens needs to get out of Boston when she runs into an old friend, Emmy Grey, who has just left a troubled relationship. Emmy proposes they move to rural Pennsylvania, where Leah can get a teaching position and both women can start again. But their new start is threatened when a woman with an eerie resemblance to Leah is assaulted by the lake, and Emmy disappears days later.
Determined to find Emmy, Leah cooperates with Kyle Donovan, a handsome young police officer on the case. As they investigate her friend's life for clues, Leah begins to wonder: did she ever really know Emmy at all? With no friends, family, or digital footprint, the police begin to suspect that there is no Emmy Grey. Soon Leah's credibility is at stake, and she is forced to revisit her past: the article that ruined her career. To save herself, Leah must uncover the truth about Emmy Grey - and, along the way, confront her old demons, find out who she can really trust, and clear her own name.
Everyone in this rural Pennsylvanian town has something to hide - including Leah herself. How do you uncover the truth when you are busy hiding your own?

Total waste of time and money
The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda is a story told from the point of view of a single main character, Leah, who seems to be making up stories about other people as she goes along. The reader is left to believe what she says about other characters in the book without ever getting to know the characters for themselves. In the end it is more like "ok, whatever you say". I guess all the author and publisher are interested in is to sucker you into making that purchase. This book was a total waste of my time and money!

It was ok
I have read a couple other books by the author that I enjoyed very much but this one I just struggled to get through. the big plot twist became pretty clear about half way through so I felt like I was just waiting for it but worst of all I had to keep rewinding the book (like several chapters back) because I would suddenly realize I had tuned out many chapters back. Narrator was great as usual but book was just lacking something major.

Meh
This book was just okay. The story had a lot of potential and it was written relatively well. The narration, though, was not really that good. Ms. Ross had a pleasant enough voice, but the shifts in the dialogue were extremely confusing because she wasn't really that good at changing her inflection to differentiate the characters and it was hard to tell if the main character was speaking in her head or to a person.

boring
What would have made Perfect Stranger better?
Endless, unnecessary details--made a boring, drawn out story line.
Narrator was weak.
Has Perfect Stranger turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
Would you be willing to try another one of Rebekkah Ross’s performances?
No, not at all. Her voice is that of someone very young, and her inflections were distracting.
What character would you cut from Perfect Stranger?
Assistant pruincipal.
Any additional comments?
This does not deserve a 4 star rating.

I could be wrong
I could be wrong but I had trouble relating to the self-absorbed main character and her inexplicable affection for her vanished friend. I just thought they were both a nuisance. May be there are people like that. May be we all are a bit like them. But however well written the book is, i couldn’t warm up to it.

Perfect Stranger, interesting reading!
Megan Miranda narrative jumping between different points in time makes her story a little hard to follow at the beginning; as chapters come along, the story opens up and allow us to understand the world around Leah; her past and present, showing us the reality or the things we consider true, are based on choices we make and the roles we decide to assign to everyone in our lives!
I couldn’t stop listening to it until the end, and I’m glad that I did!!!
