À propos de cet audio

When Grace Metalious's debut novel about the dark underside of a small, respectable New England town was published in 1956, it quickly soared to the top of the bestseller lists. A landmark in twentieth-century American popular culture, Peyton Place spawned a successful feature film and a long-running television series—the first prime-time soap opera.

Contemporary readers of Peyton Place will be captivated by its vivid characters, earthy prose, and shocking incidents. Through her riveting, uninhibited narrative, Metalious skillfully exposes the intricate social anatomy of a small community, examining the lives of its people—their passions and vices, their ambitions and defeats, their passivity or violence, their secret hopes and kindnesses, their cohesiveness and rigidity, their struggles, and often their courage.

I was a small child when Peyton Place, the soap opera, was on our black and white TV. I remember adults talking about it and for decades after( and still) community gossip or tales always referred to comments like “ what a Peyton Place”! , or “just as bad as a Peyton Place!”. I came across the book by accident in Audible and used a credit and I must admit, I thought probably that was a credit thrown away but NO! I LOVED THIS WHOLE 16 HOUR JOURNEY! Do b it! Add it your library, you won’t regret it. And first though, I suggest listening to the 4 hour book about the real life murder that Grace Metalious uses in her book, first. It’s here on audible and it also tells Grace’s tragic story.

Still a great story after almost 70 years!

A great listen about the Secret lives of people living in small-town America. This book hits home a little too hard! Wonderful performance by the narrator. The story was equally great. Highly recommended.

A great listen!
