Publisher's Summary

Oram's journey from average Joe to hero begins when he's transported into his favorite game. Lucky for him, he still has access to his early backer class, the Phylomancer, a mage class that learns spells and abilities by binding others to him.

To become a master of the fantasy world of Aerda, Oram will need to embrace his role as a Phylomancer. Along the way, he will forge powerful bonds with his companions, a beautiful elven ranger, a fierce priestess of the icy North, and a deadly and seductive demon assassin.

This box set contains the complete Aerda Online series, consisting of books one through three (Phylomancer, Demon Tamer, and Clanfather).

Note: This LitRPG fantasy adventure contains unconventional relationships. Also contains lots of crunchy stats and system messages.

Worst thing I've read in years

I didn't expect much and it still failed so badly I couldn't finish it. Reads like a high schooler's last minute assignment. Terrible world building, mechanics and plot. The only reason I made it to the beginning of book 3 is the narrator is quite good.

The narrator for this story did wonderfully. she is actually why I continued listening until part of the way through book 2.

I will start this review off by stating I'm a fan of the Dundeons and Dragons(DnD) universe. It is a great game to play and many amazing stories have spawned from it.

Sadly that is not this case with this book. I gave this story the benifit of the doubt and listened until part of the way through book 2, then I could listen no more.

The author tried to bring life to the DnD world but tried to keep it moving like a tabletop game. Characters in this fantasy worlds movements and actions were still restricted by, "Action points" like they aren't really alive. Listening to spells being cast, things not working out and characters must stand there and take the brunt of an attack because they used their two actions this round made it impossible to get sucked into the story.

Aside from the battles never seeming fluid, the characters felt very empty and lacked flushed out thought. One moment a woman is the love of the protagonists life, the next they seem almost to be irrelevant.

The protagonist was introduced as an experienced DnD gamer who never shown any of that skill or ability in this story, despite it revolving around a DnD game.

overall a poor story, with shallow characters in situations that get tougher and tougher to listen to further in the books you get.
