Publisher's Summary

All I wanted was some sugar.

When the ice cream didn’t cut it, I went for a walk, met a gorgeous dragon, and realized I’d been living a lie. No big deal. Just another Tuesday.

Back to the dragon, though. Jack’s a candy-coated hot mess. He’s bound to the ringmaster of the Underbelly Circus, and he’s desperate for my help. I don’t blame him, but there isn’t enough chocolate in the world to get me near that circus.

Jack claims I’m the lost Qilin queen - a magical freaking unicorn.

I should have run, but I never had a chance. Jack’s team was hot on his trail - lion shifter, mage, fae, merman, and vampire. They’re all from a magical world beyond mine, and they need me to help them find the way home.

Only a pure Qilin can find the path, and these six sexy men think I’m the last one alive.

I think they’re full of shit, but I’m having a hard time dragging my eyes away from their assets. Oops, did I say that out loud?

I’m Carlyle Licorne, and I’m no innocent unicorn.

Worth it

I was hesitant about purchasing this book due to the reviews about poor audio quality, but to be honest, its not a deterrent! AND it gets better by book two. I absolutely adore Lucas Webley's voice and I cant recommend this one enough.

Worth it!

The story was great, but the narrating was better!! I had a hard time with Vanessa Moyen in some of her other work, but only doing female voices in this, she was perfect. I LOVED Lucas Webley. He shot straight to the top of my list of best male narrators. The duet narration was the way to go and makes me wish all audio books were that way.

XXX

If you like listening to porn with the same ending (cliff hanger) in each book, this series is for you.

Mostly just erotica, instesting storyline though.

Lots of sex, some interesting themes and plot lines, but mostly just sex. Sometimes a little too repetitive. If they had put longer times between sex scenes it'd be more of a treat than just reading porn.

good story

the first time I listened to this like a year ago the recording was terrible. I think they fixed it so if you've listened to it and been disappointed, it's better now.

Not Bad... (series review)

This is for the whole series. I'm not going through 7 books individually.

Aside: I don't generally review narration but credit where it's due, the male narrator is the best I've ever heard in any audible performance. It was truly voice acting, several dialects and distinct diction for 6 male characters and countless extras. Plus the duet was conversational, not just split by chapter.

On to the books. Even though the writing was mediocre, meaning it was too basic and far too repetitious "oops did I say that out loud" and "gimme sugar" and "get it lion" were some 🙄 favs - the tale was engaging enough to be a fun companion while doing other activities. I usually bow out of a series after book 1, but there was something pulling me on. Note, there are HUGE amounts of porn-level sex in these books, which I'm into, but it's definitely NSFW. To be clear, the sex was integral to the story (sexuality being the bridge between various magics and magical alchemy) but the writer really could have played with tempo. Like Chase, how about some slow sex? Some loving sex? Some real wisdom or intimacy in sex? Maybe even some 'pretend' monogamy? A harem swinging from the rafters for 7 books does get old, even to the very horny.

The fantasy was good. Plot good. The world building was fine, but the descriptions of Haret could have been stronger. The villain dragged on when he should've been easily killed. Of all the men in the harem, I was a vampire fan. The author knew what she was doing by making Jai - the most powerful, intelligent, enigmatic, alpha male - play hard to get. If you note the titles, you'll see that vampire action was a LOOOOOOOOOONG wait. It was a huge incentive for me to hang in until book 6, only to discover (ironically? annoyingly?) that Jai's best intimate scene IMO was a one-off in book 4 (which was supposed to centre on the Fae). Yeah, basically this thing is one big orgy.

Something else occurred to me, the series reads like channeled information. Using veiled spiritual ideas and magic as a euphemism for energy. Carlyle Licorne being a true divine feminine; a woman with a mission, on a path of personal power, a woman accepting her cravings, and her kink, and doing little else.

Audio quality

I really wanted to get into this book but the audio quality sounds like the microphone they recorded into was dying every minute or two. The way the characters are described is reminiscent of a Fanfiction. I physically couldn’t get through this book.

Fantastic duet narration + fun fantasy start!

Great start to a fantasy series. There is some heavy world building going on, but I felt it was pretty easy to follow. The FMC is feisty and fun and takes no crap from anyone! There’s a pretty big potential harem, but the guys all seem really distinct so far! We’ve also got some interesting baddies!

The narration really stole the show! I honestly found this series because I really like Lucas Webley’s narration and especially his accents! This is duet narration with Vanessa Moyen and I love her too. She is perfect for Carlisle. Lucas pulls off different accents for all of the harem and it is flawless! Such fun audio!

Piece of Dragon

Carlyle is a runaway turned carnie who can influence peoples emotions. She hiding from a dark circus rumored to collect magically touched people and she wants nothing to do with them. But then she runs into a boy and suddenly everything goes balls. Now she’s with the boy’s team who have been both seeking her and their lost teammate, and whether she wants it or not she’s about to get more than she could ever hope for.I’m a total spaz for Carnie stuff and reverse harem. This was Dark when the Underbelly was mentioned and I absolutely loved it,cause it was extremely spicy with the guys.Carlyle did what she wanted after she got over her initial hesitation and I live for all the sticky situations she happens to find herself in with the guys. The Narrators did such an outstanding job telling this story. They brought the characters to life. I highly recommend everyone to check out this book.

Predictable story line. Hashtag totally overdone.

I struggled the most with the fact that my favorite narrator was reduced to sounding like a brainless, self obsessed teenie bopper. I couldn't get past the predictable males of the story and was more than disappointed how fast our female character seemed so loose with barely a care for how it might effect the others in the group. Unfortunately I was not able to return the book as I've reached my limit of returns. I wouldn't have even finished the book but I'm also really cheap and made myself finish it since I couldn't get my credit back.
