Publisher's Summary

The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn French. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat!

With this newest edition of French 1, we reflect the general trend in France toward casual interaction and have updated vocabulary and structures. What you are learning is neither stilted “textbook” French, nor “street” French, but rather everyday French as spoken in France.

This course includes Lessons 26-30 plus reading instruction from the French Level 1 program featuring 4.5 hours of language instruction. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak French.

Reading Lessons are included to provide you with an introduction to reading French. In addition, the combined Reading Lessons are also included. These lessons, which total about two hours, are designed to teach you to sound out words with correct pronunciation and accent. A Reading Booklet is included with your download.

The French Language

French is spoken by 55 million speakers in France, 3 million in Belgium, 1.5 million in Switzerland, 6.5 million in Canada, and 5 million in former French and Belgian colonies. It is an official language in 44 countries and an official language of the United Nations. An estimated 50 million people around the world speak French as a second language.

Better than the Spanish!

3 Things:

1. The Spanish started to get really negative, but here I didn't have to talk about a bunch of bad things happening to me, because the Spanish almost made me not come back to Pimsleur for making me repeat horrible things happening to my life over and over. so I'm glad they stopped that.

2. It covers a decent amount of reading and encourages that direction which is important because one of the effective bridges from Pimsleur to fluency is by reading so it sets the stage to go completely fluent.

3. I still don't like the pretending I'm a woman and never participate. Just say how would a man say this, how would a woman say if, if you are a woman would you have said and let people respond their own way. if you're trying to cope with the mentally confused, know they'll get offended if you tell them you're a woman in a cafe of they identify as a man and they get more angry then normal minded individuals so don't waste your time you're just offending everyone guaranteed no one is comfortable talking as though they are what they're not or don't want to be.

They should remove the French words chapters.

They need to stick to just the high value content that teaches you conversational French instead of all the filler French words chapters. The French words chapters appear between regular chapters and then all of them repeat all in a row at the end.

Best in Class

This is the best way to learn any language. I highly recommend it using this even if only a few minutes a day.
