À propos de cet audio
Pine Box Parole, Part One, “The Terry Fitzsimmons Story” begins with convicted murderer Terry Fitzsimmons hanging himself in Ontario’s Kingston Penitentiary. Subsequent chapters explain his background and the senseless killings upon which he embarked after spending years in solitary confinement. Fitzsimmons’ lawyer, and author of this book, John L. Hill, defends the indefensible by putting the blame on the prison system for creating a monster. Part Two of the book, “Other True Cases” is a collection of searing stories about five of John Hill’s other clients, including the psychopathic ‘natural born killer’ Clifford Olson, and Inderjit Singh Reyat, the only person to be convicted of the bombing Air India Flight 182.

“Pine Box Parole gives a voice to the innumerable prisoners—no, people—who have suffered immensely at the hands of the Correctional authorities. Media is awash with simplified narratives of crime and too few of us are thinking critically about the correctional system as an institution. In Pine Box Parole, Hill takes a massive step towards balancing the dialogue.”—Jeffrey Hartman, Prison Rights Lawyer
“Part Ronan Farrow, part Truman Capote, lawyer/author John Hill recounts the riveting and sadly true story of a broken man battling a correctional system that seems to be waging a personal vendetta against him. Hill’s storytelling chops make it ripe for episodic television.”—PETER CARTER, Analysis Editor, The Lawyer’s Daily
This book is an excellent presentation of what happens, when a lawyer in Canada, takes a case, and then the procedures involved in getting the guilty, or the not guilty, through the criminal court system.
It also delves in the personalities involved, but not in a flashy or speculative manner. The crimes themselves are the sensational part, the people involved are not. They are treated with dignity and in spite of their situations, It is presented to the reader/listener that accused are entitled to a proper and complete defense, and why that is so.
I really enjoyed the book, it is paced very well, is very informative and if you want a true crime book written by someone who sat three feet away from some of the more notorious types in Canada, and is going to give you an account, without playing up the perpetrators or his own notoriety, this is for you.
