Publisher's Summary

Renata Ghali believed in Lee Suh-Mi's vision of a world far beyond Earth, a planet promising to reveal the truth about our place in the cosmos, untainted by overpopulation, pollution, and war. Ren believed in that vision enough to give up everything to follow Suh-Mi into the unknown.

More than 20 years have passed since Ren and the rest of the faithful braved the starry abyss and established a colony at the base of an enigmatic alien structure where Suh-Mi has since resided alone. Ren has worked hard as the colony's 3-D printer engineer, creating the tools necessary for human survival in an alien environment - and harboring a devastating secret.

For the good of her fellow colonists, Ren continues to perpetuate the lie forming the foundation of the colony, despite the personal cost. Then a stranger appears, far too young to have been part of the first planetfall, a man who bears a remarkable resemblance to Suh-Mi.

The truth Ren has concealed since planetfall can no longer be hidden, and its revelation could tear the colony apart.

worth trying something new

when purposed with the idea I had not read a book written by a female author except JKR I knew I needed to broaden my horizon.

this book was recommended as a a new twist on sci-fi with an excellent profomance being read by the author and I can honestly say it was a delight.

the story feels real and tangible enough for you to close your eyes and see it as every good story should and with much more colour and life than similar works.

I am greatful the author has presented her work, herself and it was a true listening pleasure and I will look forward to exploring more of her works.

Great ideas but the story didn't grip me

4 stars because, although there were creative and cool ideas and concepts explored, the story didn't draw me in and have me hooked.

A telltale heart

There’s a larger science fiction contact story here, but the main plot plays out in an internal struggle and several deceptions. Well told, but didn’t resonate with me at the time that I listened to it. The author is a clear speaker and imparts emotion to the roles.

Not what you'd expect

While technically about a woman who followed her best friend/ religious leader to an alien planet to create a settlement and maybe meet God, this book is largely about one woman's grief and trauma. Prepare for a heavy read with the biggest mysteries only being explained in the final hour of the novel.
