I actually have the paperback as well and alternated between depending on what I was doing and if the narrator was bothering me. I found him very monotone, which works for Roland, but can make it hard to keep listening.
The story is so rich with detail, impressively diverse content with prose, letters, poetry (of an epic proportion), fables, diaries, and scholarly works the characters refer to. And the STORY is so interesting and keeps you guessing, with a very satisfying ending.
This has been on almost every book list I've taken seriously, so I knew I had to read it and I'm very glad I did.

I really needed to work hard to stay focused on this novel, but as the clues began to fall into place, my interest piqued. The final quarter of the book brings everything together and makes the (slightly) long slog worth it. The post script was beautiful.

Not only is the novel one of the best I’ve “read’ but to listen to it being read by Samuel West is a perfect pleasure. The actor successfully renders all the emotions and accents of the incredible characters. Just exquisite.
