Summary

Nothing is more seductive than temptation.

Reckless desire sends Charlotte Daicheston into the garden with a dashing masked stranger. He's powerful and unforgettable, a devastatingly handsome footman who lures her - not against her will - into a grand indiscretion at a masquerade ball. Then he vanishes.

Several years later, after Charlotte has made her dazzling debut in London society, they meet again. But the rogue is no footman. He's rich, titled, and he doesn't remember Charlotte. Worse, he's the subject of some scandalous gossip: Rumor has it that the earl's virility is in question.

Charlotte, who knows all too intimately the power of his passion, is stunned by the gossip that has set society ablaze. At last, there can be a storybook ending... unless, of course, Charlotte's one mad indiscretion had not been with him at all.

Such a lively story, with a unique perspective. A painful listen for me as I lost my little 2 year old daughter 6 months ago but the little voice calling papa is heart melting. For me, wrenchingly painful that led to 2 days of crying but it was so delightful I just had to hear it all.

Delightful

I struggled with this one, I can't remember the last time I felt so strongly biased against the male love interest. but that's my personal bias as I'm learning more about abuse tactics. I know men like this were a very real and true representation of people of the time, and even now honestly, and he could definitely have been worse, basically, well written very human people who make a lot of mistakes but end up hea.
The narration in my opinion could really use an overhaul, I found it quite monotonous, and hard to connect with, but again, could be a personal bias, I just find it uncomfortable when passionate love scenes are talked about without any difference for tone between it and the very "boring" character building descriptions of endless balls and parties, and arguments with the parents. a little bit of emotion in the narration is really helpful when describing passionate topics.
Overall I enjoyed listing, but I'm glad it was included in my membership and I didn't spend a credit to listen, I would have been more displeased for sure if I came out the end with this opinion and had used a credit on it.

interesting, infuriating story lol.

Loved it at the same time I began to hate it. So glad I stuck it out. Definitely starting book 2 right away.

Irritating, infuriating but a must finish

For a genre that caters to women, you would think the author would understand that no woman is interested in a verbally abusive male love interest. Full on abusive not once, but twice.

Terrible love interest

I enjoyed the story, however I had a difficult time listening to the narrator, she was breathless constantly and it made it difficult to listen I made it through as I wanted to know how the story ended

Good story
