Publisher's Summary

When the skeletal remains of a young woman and her baby are found entombed behind the kitchen wall of a historic Tudor house, Cassandra is overcome with grief. She seems to know who the young woman was, but not how she knows, or how she came to be there. Cassandra becomes inexplicably drawn to the house and the mystery of the bones of Blackfriars. As she begins to learn the truth about the Thorne siblings who occupied the house during the reign of Elizabeth I, her own life takes an unexpected turn, and she finds out that her fate is linked to the Thornes in ways she never imagined.

Average...

This is generally my kind of story since I love paranormals, reincarnation, and time travel. The narrator was quite good. Having said that, I'm sad to say this story itself didn't do it for me. It has a formulaic plot, and many scenes were spun out longer than need be with boring and insignificant details. I like character driven stories so it's not as if I was expecting or wanting canon fire and graphic torture scenes. And the 'basically the explain the book in one paragraph" ending? Sigh. Not an utter waste if you're just looking for some mindless relaxation. It'll probably help you sleep.

Liked half of it.

I received an audiobook version of this book from the author. This is my honest review. This book did not really work for me. I felt like the narrator (of the story, not the audiobook narrator) seemed rather haughty and full of herself, and maybe some of that is because she is British (and therefore the audiobook narrator is British, and a British accent just sounds somewhat haughty to my American ears). Whatever the cause, I did not like her from the beginning, and because I didn't like her, I didn't really care much about what she had to say about herself and her life. The reason this book wasn't a complete flop for me, though, is because of the bits set in the 16th century. I loved seeing life through Cassandra and Richard's eyes. If the entire book had just been about them, I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed it much more. Their lives had mystery and intrigue and a little bit of medieval horror and I was hooked when they had the reins of the story. So overall I give Precious Bones 3.076 stars because I only really enjoyed about half of it

Never saw the twist coming!

I struggled to like the reader but was glad I stuck with it! Well done!

Nice change of pace

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a nice change from what I usually read. I’d recommend it to anyone who reads ‘romance’ and mystery.

Great Historical Fiction

Precious Bones was a fascinating read. I loved the different timelines and the overall idea of the story. I enjoyed some characters more than others, but overall, they were written well. I loved the time period that the "current day" ran along side. It is a time period I have always wanted to learn more about but have not yet. I think for fans of this time period, the story would be even more enjoyable. Just an overall, fascinating and enjoying read. I did find a few bits a little slower than others. The beginning was the hardest part for me to get through but important for the overall story. Verity Burns did a great job with the voices. I wish there had been more emotion in her voice acting as some places I could have used a little more to keep me going. I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Two romance stories in one

I love this story! The writing style is unique with warm characters in both the past and present storylines. Cassandra writing the story of one of her previous lives was just heart wrenching, so much detail and research went in to the story set in London during the Tudor area. I am an avid Mary Queen of Scots fan so any time i get a story written during her time I’m thrilled. I love that the author gives us all the passion without the intimate details. As well as all the horror of the 1500’s without the awful details Unfortunately the narrator didn’t do the story justice, she just didn’t have enough passion for the story but narrators are a matter of personal choice so don’t let my opinion stop you. The story is well worth it.

Great Story!

I loved listening to this story that combined both a modern-day and a historical fiction romance. The plot is filled with mystery and includes the intrigue of the peril of living in England’s Tudor era. You will become hooked in the story as you listen along—as you wonder just what Cassandra’s connection to the discovered bones could be. The ending will bring you to tears as you learn of both the heart-rending and heartwarming conclusion. (Note: I thought the narrator did a wonderful job in reading this story as well!!) I received this audiobook at my request and I voluntarily wrote this review.

Thumbs up

Time travel novel with murder, betrayal, suspense, intrigue taking place in Tudor and present day England. Verity Burns tells this love story with a twist.

Precious Bones

I enjoyed the story line and especially the historical details and how it unfolded. I would have liked a bit more regarding the continuing story of Constance and her son though.
