Publisher's Summary

A contemporary Bluebeard story set in the shadowy edges of New Orleans’ French Quarter by the New York Times best-selling author Melissa Marr

Note: This Audible Original contains sensitive material and may be upsetting to some listeners.

After receiving a lead from an unlikely source, Juliana, the mortician tasked with the bodies of victims of the "Carolina Creeper", the South’s most notorious serial killer in decades, sets off to New Orleans in search of Theresa Morris, an heiress and presumably the Creeper’s only surviving victim.

Theresa now goes by “Tess” and is a shadow of her former heiress self. She’s also being pursued by famous novelist Michael, who sets his sights on Tess as the muse of his work-in-progress, oblivious to her former identity.

As Michael gets closer to Tess and begins to put the pieces of her traumatic past together, Juliana zeroes in on her whereabouts. They don’t know it, but the three of them are on a collision course, hurtling straight into the Creeper’s path.

A fantastic thriller murder mystery style

This is not her usual fantasy writing but she does an amazing job. This book still stays with me! It was so creepy but thrilling. Easy to read and keeps you wanting more. Love the way she weaves you into the streets of New Orleans.

Well written & performed, not for faint of heart

Well written and performed! I appreciated having multiple voice actors to play the different characters. However, I was not expecting the level of detail and graphics into potentially triggering content such as domestic abuse and rape from just the summary. Good book , but take the disclaimer at the top of the summary seriously.

Deep dark and interesting

An interesting twist on a Svengali type of story. If you blanche at strongly worded violence this may not be for you. The main female characters are well drawn with enough flaws to be engaging. Some of the male charactets were a bit 2 dimensional. The performance of the read was solid with good vocal identities for each character. Well worth a listen.

Not very good

The story lacked any movement or character development. The narration was almost unbearable. The females doing the male voices were incredibly distracting and almost comical.
