Publisher's Summary

Dale Carnegie, author of the legendary How to Win Friends and Influence People, began his career as the premier "life coach" of the 20th century by teaching the art of public speaking. Public speaking, as Carnegie saw it, is a vital skill that can be attained through basic and repeated steps. His classic volume on the subject appeared in 1926 and was revised twice - in shortened versions - in 1956 and 1962.

This 2006 revision - edited by a longtime consultant to Dale Carnegie & Associates, Inc., and the editor in charge of updating How to Win Friends and Influence People - is the definitive one for our era. While up to date in its language and points of reference, Public Speaking for Success preserves the full range of ideas and methods that appeared in the original, including Carnegie's complete speech and diction exercises, which follow each chapter, as the author originally designated them.

This edition restores Carnegie's original appendix of the three complete self-help classics: Acres of Diamonds by Russell H. Conwell, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, and A Message to Garcia by Elbert Hubbard. Carnegie included these essays in his original edition because, although they do not directly relate to public speaking, he felt they would be of great value to listeners. Here is the definitive update of the best-loved public-speaking book of all time.

You have to take notes

This is a marvellous book, narrated extraordinary. “Men do not attract that which they want but that which they are”

excellent, awesome and great.

I love this book, I think it's absolutely the best I've listened to so far. The narration is in a class above the rest.

the author ends each chapter with write in English and subtle ways to enhance your vocabulary and vocal performance

Needs another edit

The ideas described in this book are extremely useful, but some of them would gain even more if they were edited again in the recent years.

This book doesn't only teach one to hold him or herself correctly when speaking in front of a group, but also teaches many things like self-assurance, voice techniques, body movements, motivation for success.

Dale is best

A great read whether a first time public speaker or a long time one. There is a little for everyone. One of those books to go back to every couple of years.

Very Dated

It is an interesting book, however it is very dated. It comes across as appealing to a less sophisticated audience then to our current culture and some of the lecturers/speeches at the end are almost offensive in today’s non-white Christian environment. For those who love the art and Power of language and negotiation, I would recommend this book to add to your reference library.

Out of date

What was cutting edge knowledge 70 years ago, is old now. Almost every child knows what he tries to tell us.

Wish I could get my credit back.

This book is timeless to those who have spent little to no time speaking with a group above two people. I did not find this dry material worth the energy it took to press stop.

Absolutely fantastic!

The last chapter was the best! It wrapped an incredible book with a nice bow. This book will indeed teach you tactics related to becoming a better speaker- but it ends with gems associated with the necessary tools to be a good man or woman. Truly, the authentic speaker will go the furthest. So seek your truth, so that that you may command a crowd’s attention by speaking from what is near and dear to you. If what is near and dear is true, its foundation is based in servitude. A message worth hearing serves humanity. So you see, it all comes full circle if you pay attention.
