Publisher's Summary

She was a "Jane Doe," an unidentified white female whose decomposed body was discovered near a quarry off California's Highway 1. The case fell to the Santa Teresa County Sheriff's Department, but the detectives had little to go on. The woman was young, her hands were bound with a length of wire, there were multiple stab wounds, and her throat had been slashed. After months of investigation, the case remained unsolved.

That was 18 years ago. Now, the two men who found the body, both nearing the end of long careers in law enforcement, want one last shot at the case. Old and ill, they need someone to do the legwork for them, and they turn to Kinsey Millhone. They will, they tell her, find closure if they can just identify the victim. Kinsey is intrigued by the challenge and agrees to work with them.

But revisiting the past can be a dangerous business, and what begins with the pursuit of Jane Doe's real identity ends in a high-risk hunt for her killer.

My first Grafton novel, just as enjoyable in audio

I first read Q is for Quarry as a bored 16 year old, pottering through a random bookshelf. I love true crime books and the book with its fiercely independent protagonist, drew me in at once.

As a 31 year old adult, I have loved the books ever since and have an active collection. I love Judy Kaye's performance, having heard her in other installments. She is a perfect match for the character of Kinsey and her range of voices are enjoyable.

Q is a great one on many fronts, from Kinsey's discovery of other family ties, to Stacy's food interest. The delving into the cold case was really riveting. And I always admired Grafton's interest in the case and wanting to get the victim's case more eyes. All in all, a thrilling entry worth the read of anyone from bored 16 year olds to old fans.

I will continue down the line and enjoy them alongside my hard/soft cover collection.
