Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry (creator of the Netflix series V Wars) comes the first in a brand-new series featuring Joe Ledger and Rogue Team International.

A small island off the coast of Korea is torn apart by a bioweapon that drives everyone - men, women, and children - insane with murderous rage. The people behind the attack want Korea reunified or destroyed. No middle ground. No mercy. Soon Japan, China, and the United States are pushed to the brink of war, while terrorists threaten to release the rage bioweapon in a way of pure destructive slaughter. Joe Ledger leads his newly formed band of international troubleshooters in their first mission to stop the terror cell, fighting alongside agents from North and South Korea. With the lives of billions at stake, Ledger is willing to bring his own brand of terror to this frightening new war.

How can this tripe garnish any decent reviews?

I was reading some reviews and I thought, oh looks interesting, I'll give it a try. For the love of God, why did I waste money on it? Has literacy collapsed to the point that this garbage could get even two stars? Its the silliest, overwritten novel I have listened to in years. It wasn't just bad with purple prose, it was tiresome with silly, unbelievable plots and absurd action. Like North Korea is going to co-operate with the US or there is going to be a nuclear non-proliferation meeting with the US, China ....and Pakistan etc. Come on. We can barely knock off scum like Soleimani without everyone clutching their pearls. And yeah, lets go to a conference after knowing the culprits have an airborne virus that can kill. Forgot to check the air ventilation system? Sorry. Meanwhile that turd Kim Jong-un is going to be protected with armed security in the same room with 8 other "world leaders"? The little porkie would be dead from his asthma if even 1/2 the action happened. I don't think there is one thing in this lousy novel that was believable. It was just absurd and I'm mad at myself for finishing it.

best book I've read

this one takes its, Ray Porter is an amazing narrator and absolutely crushes it in this book, if you like Tom Clancy or other action novels this one will fit nicely into your collection.

Very verbose; however, not a bad story a little overreaching in its possibilities in real life.

I like Ray Porter but he overacted in his narration trying to draw out the dead spots in the book.

I love Joe Ledger!

Ray Porter IS joe Ledger, and a more expressive character with a wry, self-deprecating and completely cynical sense of humour, revealing hidden motivations and intentions by being a real-time hero cop in the very first story.
I feel as if I've come along on an evolving adventure of Protecting The World. Love the science/toys lol
I highly recommend starting at the beginning...this is my kinda soap opera 🤣

perfectly executed

blows my mind that this is the same author from my favorite teen book back in the day. The rot and ruin was amazing but this takes the cake 👌

Ray Porter is best

A good story, a great and moving ending, but Ray Porter made it all amazing.

Best Ledger yet

Not sure how Maberry can top this one.

It had all the elements of a Joe Ledger adventure....but....but....but....I cried. And I do NOT cry. Not sure if my tears were due to the final chapters or the fact I need to wait til July for the next installment. Perhaps both! I am not a military novel fan. Or a drama or comedy fan. I don’t have a funny bone in my body. I am a sci fi (non gore, supernatural only) horror fan, and tho there may be elements, these are not true sci fi horror. Military, drama, with only a hint of my fandoms, yet I am Hooked!

Maybe it’s Maberry’s great character building or maybe it’s Ray Porters storytelling. Probably both. This is one great series that has a little to satisfy every fandom. More now, please, Jonathan.

Edit...for those giving less fav reviews: you obviously haven’t started this series from Patient Zero, which is where I got hooked, I know they’re supposed to be able to be standalone, but to catch on to the sci fi flavour, or the horror genre hint and whiff, one really must start at Patient Zero and build up. It’s also how you come to know, really know, all the characters. Reading just one on its own is like reading only the first and last paragraph of any news story. Sure, you get the gist, but lack the “meat”. I admit to rolling my eyes every time Mindreader is explained, or a character’s back story is rehashed a little, solely for the sake of the uninitiated reader. Trust me, to fully enjoy, do not treat as stand alone. Go back, and start at the beginning.

Also, if you’re looking for full blown reality try reading non fiction or even just the newspaper for fun. That usually has enough horror for any buff.
