Poorly Narrated and Repretive

The narration is mostly monotone and what little emphasis it does have is often on the wrong words. Many points are stated repetitively; in one chapter the author states 'Rollo was given Normandy and converted to Catholicism' four times in slightly different wording. The time line jumps around a lot which makes the sequence of events hard to follow.

Very Expansive

Before listening to this book i had a rough understanding of Viking culture and history. But this book helped me expand my knowledge of the Vikings. I will be listening to it many more times because the stories being told are just so fascinating.

Happy with this purchase!

I'm very happy with my purchase of this book overall. The first thing I will say, it is not a book for experts on mythology. It is more a book for beginners or for those who like to have extra source material for research but it is not 100% in-depth on the subject. I bought this so I could introduce my grandkids to mythology and teach them about all the different types of mythological stories and gods, especially the story of Ragnar Lothbrok and Norsemen. This book is perfect for anyone interested in myths.

Fascinating!

I'm a fan of the History channel's series "The Vikings". I wanted to know more about the sagas about Ragnar Lodbrok and his sons. A fascinating listen. If you're a fan of the series you'll be pleased to have this book.

detailed book

It has a good overview of the history of the Vikings and events are told in a very good manner which keeps it more interesting. So if you are looking for a very detailed book on the history, you probably want to look elsewhere, but for a QUICK overview of the lives and history of the vikings especially Ragnar, this hits the mark.

Beautiful

It's a beautiful addition to my mythology collection. I do wish, however, that there was more about Rollo in here. Only a few blips about how great he was. I'd like to know more about the "why" behind it all. Everyone has a story, and I was hoping to get a little bit more about him. I'm happy I purchased this though.

Nice

This is a well-conceived and thoroughly enjoyable chronicle of the Viking Age and its impact on the subsequent events that make up human history. Rather than just narrating a timeline of events, the author uses the unique approach of relating the stories of specific individuals

Interesting and excting!

For the book itself I found the stories well narrated and interestingly written. It is difficult to write HISTORY when you only have a few written references available. However, the author did his best. Having been a fan of the Vikings tv series, it was fun to get a better handle on the chronology, the sagas and the lineage.

some good, some inaccurate, low production value

The reader had bad and inconsistent pronunciation of Norse and Germanic terms. Some of the information seems to contradict more authoritative sources I've read and leads me to question the validity of new information and interpretation encountered. Overall, not bad, needed more directing and producer input. Reader is easy to understand if not engaging.

Pretty bad

The narrator is awful. He sounds like a robot, not real at all. It's hard to listen to him

Robotic lecture

The voice of the lecturer is robotic, monotone and without any pause when shifting from one subject to another.
