About this listen

A world the gods forgot.

Of all the worlds and life they created, the gods favored their children the most. But with that favor came the fear that their Legacy would one day become too powerful and overthrow them. Devram was created. A realm hidden amongst the stars. The gods gave their Legacy the best of all the worlds, and then they left, a sworn agreement to never return and to never interfere.

A historical event.

Forced to a life of servitude, the Fae are required to provide for the Legacy in more ways than one. Every five years, the eligible Fae are gathered for the Selection and assigned to serve in one of the six Kingdoms. To be chosen as the personal Source for a Kingdom Heir is the greatest honor, and for the first time in a millennia, all six Kingdoms have heirs choosing a Source. But their selections could tip the power balance a little too far.

A chosen that was never meant to be.Tessalyn Asura was as forgotten as the realm. But when she finds herself the personal Source to the Heir of Endings, she winds up serving in the darkest Kingdom of them all. The secrets within the Arius Kingdom are meant to be learned and kept, but this was never the life she wanted. Fighting not only the fate thrust upon her, but the temptation to lose herself to desire, Tessa will do anything to escape her new destiny. Until she starts to realize maybe their world wasn’t as forgotten as they thought, and maybe she’s the reason why.

Rain of Shadows and Endings is book one in The Legacy Series and ends on a cliffhanger. This is new adult dark fantasy romance series and includes elements that may be triggering to some listeners.

Talk about slow 🥵

I have listened to 75 titles and this is the first time I have literally hated the FMC! I understand being stubborn but I'm halfway through and she hasn't stopped whining. Want, want, want without giving just a little. I'm tired of it and this close to stop listening. If she doesn't stop being a bitch soon it will be a waste of a credit. But hey, listen if you dare! 😉

duel pov

great story so far but I can't stand a change of narration like if the two narrators where talking in the same conversation instead of chapter to chapter it'd be a 100/10 he can't do a woman's voice very well

OMG!!

I can't believe the reviews that have been left on the series, from someone who has actually been through horrible 🤐, it sure has some triggers and wtf blaming her for what others have done to her?
I almost didn't read it due to the reviews but I'm glad I did. Don’t listen to the reviews it is an excellent book though that reviews about the male narrated is true. His parts are rather hard to get through

Gripping tale

Wonderful narration! A unique world where mystery and lore collide. A story of oppression, relationships, lies, and half-truths. Tessa is a Fae source, raised in a world where her kind are governed firmly, made to serve the Legacy, far-removed decendents of the gods. She is wild, and unexpected; obedient yet obstinate; encompassing, yet broken. Nothing is as it seems. Mind the cliff! Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!

You CANNOT put this book down!

Wow, just wow! I’m a HUGE fan of the Lady of Darkness series by Melissa, so I knew I had to read the Legacy series as well.

I was hooked immediately and I flew through the book in two days (which isn’t easy with two little humans running around your house).

Potential spoilers:
Melissa is VERY clear at the beginning that there are a number of triggers and heavy themes in this book. She also clearly states that the FMC is not Scarlett (LOD series) and the MMC is not Sorin, which holy hell is that ever accurate.

The Legacy rule and the Fae serve them, in a never ending number of ways, some more cringy than others. This book has a number of complex characters, many of whom have immense trauma and make very questionable decisions.

I felt so conflicted about Theon throughout the book, but I actually found it refreshing that he is so damaged, tormented and struggles to manage his emotions. I cannot predict if he is actually the love interest (or if this will truly end up being enemies to lovers). The scenes with Theon and his father made my blood boil and also made me empathize with his character and why he is the way he is (or at least what we know of him at this point). I think it demonstrates Melissa’s strong writing skills to make a character so toxic and abusive, but also make you empathize with him in moments and want to learn more about his situation.

Then there is Tessa. I feel like you suffer along side of her because her suffering and trauma is so vividly depicted by Melissa. I appreciate the mental health representation in this book. I can relate how Tessa often shuts down, pushes people away, and goes numb in an attempt to cope with her anxiety and depression and the immense trauma she has experienced. My heart cracked and I balled my eyes out when Theon locks her in the basement.

Then there are characters like Tristan and Luka who I am dying to learn more about! I fell in love with so many characters in Melissa’s Lady of Darkness series and so I cannot wait to see how the Legacy Series progresses.

This is awful

Nothing happens. The FMC is the worst. She is awful. Everything that happens to her is the worst. She refuses to take ownership of her own shitty decisions. I regret getting this. I can’t believe there’s a whole ass series.

Not for me

This is definitely dark. The trigger warnings are real.
The female narrator was much more enjoyable to listen to than the male narrator. There was very little action in this book, and mostly focused on the torture and degradation of our FMC. The tropes felt even more superimposed, the plot really did not take off IMO, it read formulaic, and the premise wasn’t my jam. That being said, I still find it impressive when someone creates an entire world/universe and flushes it out pen to paper.
Maybe the next in this series takes off, I just felt there were hours of unnecessary repetition.
