Publisher's Summary

Thanksgiving has a way of thawing the frostiest hearts in Lake Eden. But that won't be happening for newlywed Hannah Swensen Barton - not after her husband suddenly disappears....

Hannah has felt as bitter as November in Minnesota since Ross vanished without a trace and left their marriage in limbo. Still, she throws herself into a baking frenzy for the sake of pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving-themed treats while endless holiday orders pour into The Cookie Jar.

Hannah even introduces a raspberry Danish pastry to the menu, and P.K., her husband's assistant at KCOW-TV, will be one of the first to sample it. But instead of taking a bite, P.K., who is driving Ross's car and using his desk at work, is murdered. Was someone plotting against P.K. all along or did Ross dodge a deadly dose of sweet revenge?

Hannah will have to quickly sift through a cornucopia of clues and suspects to stop a killer from bringing another murder to the table....

He’s gone! Yeah!

Ross was a huge mistake from the get go. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Now maybe we can get back to normal.

Weird

I’m perfectly fine with the recipes following each chapter in the print/ebook versions but it’s annoying to hear them on the audio version. I suggest moving all the recipes to a chapter at the end for the audiobook. Otherwise, the book was fine, although it ended on a weird note, leaving the reader . . . unsatisfied.

Disappointed to say the least

I've listened to all of the Hanna Swensen series and this edition was just annoying. Hannah's husband Ross just up and leaves her and she is back to having dinner with Norman and Mike in a matter of weeks. Why go through the whole ordeal of having Hanna fall in love with Ross and get married to just have him run off. Now we're left to wait for the next book to find out what's happened to Ross.

A reprieve for Mike and Norman?

The ending was truly a surprise! But overall, it was standard Hannah Swenson and I liked it a lot :-)

Too Many Recipes

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Listening to this book was quite tedious. Too many recipes, and I felt that several of the recipes were infomercials for Cool Whip. Story line had too few complications, too little suspense, and the most intriguing part of the plot--her missing husband--had a very unsatisfactory conclusion.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something more complex and less predictable.

What three words best describe Suzanne Toren’s voice?

Fair, okay, bored (when she read through the recipes).

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment--I kept waiting for it to get better, and it never did.

Any additional comments?

I think I've said it all.

Very Disappointing

Had been looking forward to listening to this, but am disenchanted that Hannah's family members were reduced to cameo appearances, if at all; obsessive coffee drinking (very, very rare other beverages are offered); people skip meals & way too much sweet eating, with more coffee! All that caffeine, cookies & sweets, these people should be diabetic & overweight! The police are written to appear inept; some recipes last 7 minutes, so I forgot what the chapter was about & are very annoying. They should be in a chapter of their own at the end. The ending makes no sense whatsoever as to why Ross did what he did. I hope the next book will be better.

Great reader!

I am a long time reader of this series and this is the first time I’ve done the audio book. I think they have a very good reader - she actually seems to make up for some of the weaker elements of Ms. Fluke’s writing. Have to agree though: the recipes need to be put in a section at the end of the book. I do not want to hear three to six minutes of recipe while I’m stuck in traffic! And even with car mode it’s too difficult to try and fast forward through those sections while driving (not safe).

mild mystery in Diabetesville

Slow, syrupy sweet, inane, repetitive conversations between folks in a town where every single person eats, sleeps and talks cookies all day every day.
