Publisher's Summary

Sara Grey's world shattered 10 years ago when her father was brutally murdered. Now, at 17, she is still haunted by memories of that day and driven by the need to understand why it happened. She lives a life full of secrets, and her family and friends have no idea of the supernatural world she is immersed in or of Sara's own very powerful gift.

In her quest for answers about her father's death, Sara takes risks that expose her and her friends to danger and puts herself into the sights of a sadistic vampire. On the same fateful night she meets Nikolas, a warrior who turns Sara's world upside down and is determined to protect her even if it's the last thing she wants.

Sara's life starts to spin out of control as she is hunted by an obsessed vampire, learns that her friends have secrets of their own, and reels from the truth about her own ancestry. Sara has always been fiercely independent, but in order to survive now she must open herself to others, to reveal her deepest secrets. And she must learn to trust the one person capable of breaking down the walls around her.

Not like other girls syndrom

This book had a lot of internalized misogyny and I don’t understand why it has such high ratings. I hate when authors feel they need to belittle other women to make the heroine seem better. Also she made so many illogical decisions in the book and put everyone in danger. It’s hard to like a book when you really dislike the main character.

good premise, meh narrator

I don't mind the story, although I have grown out of the YA side of fantasy. still kept me captivated and wanting more.
although the narrator was meh. She was monotone but my biggest problem was when she would wet her mouth or swallow.
I can hear it and it was really gross to listen too. 🤢🤢

Better for younger teens

I found it soooo hard to get into this book. I made it to chapter 3 and couldn't make it any further. pretty sure I would have loved this in my teens. Not a fan of the narrator.

Outstanding Plot & Characters

I picked this audiobook up looking for something to listen to at work. I'm so glad I found this trilogy. I now own the books and audiobooks. The characters and plot are engaging and suspenseful. This book will have you sitting on edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen. I could easily relate to Sara and her desire to live life on her own terms. Sara is incredibly tenacious and independent which adds a bit of humor when dealing with Nikolas. Her strength and loyalty to those she loves no matter their "differences" is very admirable and makes her that much more lovable. The different creatures in this literary world are fascinating and add so much depth to the existing story. If you haven't read/listened to this book and enjoy the paranormal I highly recommend it!

YA at its best

This is not my normal genre but I really enjoyed. Some chemistry but no steam. A great adventure for all ages. Looking for a good story that happens to be clean, this is a good choice.

Has potential but

If you don't mind a mindless read about a young woman who constantly endangers herself, her friends and relatives who constantly turns away aid and shelter to keep her safe and who only at the very end of the book realizes that her self centered ways will not only cost her everything and everybody she cares for but her own existence as well.

The book has good character building and world building, and the narrator is not bad. Its just let down by taking stubborn to new level of incredulity as she goes through one near miss after another refusing help from those who save her and her friends time after time.

Did not expect to love it.

I started this book thinking I would not like it. I loved it though. It was very good. The writer did a great job. The narrator made the book so enjoyable. I would recommend this book to anyone into the fantasy world of mythical creatures. Anyone looking for a good adventure book to read it is definitely full of them. Can't wait to start the next in the series.

Derivative

The only clever thing about this book is setting a Vampire vs Werewolf book in Portland, Maine instead of Portland, Oregon. I slogged through it, but when we got to the evil Arab sheik with Alzheimer's, I almost quit. Hello, people with Alzheimer's make lousy criminal masterminds. And of course, make the villain an Arab. Not to mention so many ridiculous plot twists that I wondered whether the story had been planned in advance at all. Sorry, I'm not usually so critical, but this book was a chore to get through.

Refreshing storyline

Loved the characters and plot, felt really drawn in and wasn't overly chatty dialogue of characters. Great balance of book plot history (bat actual history, but characters) and great use of highs/lows and shock value! Heading towards Refugee now!

If my ears could smile...they would!

Caitlin Greer brings Karen Lynch's books to life!!! I wasn't able to put the book down when I was reading it and I wasn't able to turn the audiobook off either! I listened to it in the car, while working out, while cooking dinner...it was great! I love Caitlin's voice and I feel she really brought the characters to life. This book was so easy to listen to - I really can't wait to listen to the next ones in the series.

Paranormal romance at its finest. I love this series.

This book has a great story line. Just the perfect balance of romance, action, suspense, and fantasy.

Love the book but the narrator sucks

I've read all the books and was excited to listen to the audiobook, but was disappointed by the narrator. Her Russian 'accent' is horrible and she speeds up whenever she is imitating the male characters , making it sound even more unnatural.

Par traduit en français 😑🙁

Dommage qu’il ne soit pas en français sur audible. J’ai lu les 4 tomes et j’ai adoré, mais faire la traduction à l’écoute est une tanné pour moi.

Seemed promising at first

Unlike the others, I liked the narrator. The story had a great start in the beginning and the heroine seemed honourable. She was kind, helpful and took care of injured animals. The male love interest was oh so mysterious and beautiful. It had all the ingredients for a decent paranormal romance (kinda). The biggest problem that I couldn’t look past was the blatant girl-hate. Every teenage girl with the exception of the protagonist was so catty. I also couldn’t relate to a heroine who had no female friends cuz all girls are either bitches or dumb blonds who drool over hot guys right? Oh and I’m so tired of the over bearing “I’m not like other girls” cliche.

Sorry I stopped listening after 12 chapters as the story got too juvenile for my taste. Maybe I would’ve loved this if I were 14-16 (the intended audience I believe) so I gave it 3 stars.
