Publisher's Summary

Claire Gracen's life is picture perfect. Her career as a marketing director is on the brink of being legendary, and her marriage to her high school sweetheart has never been stronger. No, wait. It has. It used to be amazing and fulfilling, but one day Claire realizes that she's been living a lie and her best friend and husband have committed the ultimate betrayal. Broken and depressed, Claire is in need of something new - new city, new job, new friends. When she happens to attract the interest of the sexiest man she's ever met, a man significantly younger than her, she immediately turns him down - only to later discover that this man is Jonathan Statham, self-made billionaire and CEO of Statham Industries. Her boss.

Jonathan Statham is unlike any man she's met before. He's used to getting whatever he wants - whenever he wants, and he isn't about to take no for an answer.

Great context of older woman, younger man

Give me a read about forty-somethings and I'm in, it's such a tangible, refreshing context for me. I felt totally engaged with MID LIFE LOVE because it also included a favourite setting of mine....office romance. This book is about a 40 year old divorcee who has lost herself in her heartache of the last 4 years. Claire is incredulous at the attentions of Jonathan Statham, her 28 year old boss and CEO of the company. She cannot understand his attraction to her and thwarts each of his approaches.

This book is rich with fabulous side characters in Claire's daughters, they made me laugh and brought such tangibility to the storyline. I never felt like I knew where the story was going and this was such fun to devour. The many twists and turns kept me hooked even though I felt the last 5% was rushed. All the characters were well developed and the writing just flowed. I need more from these two and I hope my desire is fulfilled

I hate the female lead

She would have to be one of the worse females ever. Why on earth any guy would try and want her is unbelievable. What a joke when she calls Jonathon immature, she really needs to look in the mirror.

Annoying heroine

Honestly I liked it until the last 1/3 - the heroine was SUCH a wimp.... and totally unable to grow a backbone or communicate. Yeah, there's a 'happily ever after', but her inability to handle her own feelings was a huge turn off and made the end of the book extremely difficult to actually get to.

Entertaining and well written characters

This is a good story and worth reading; however, I probably skipped forward more than an hour during the last 1/3 of the book. The ending was really expanded and very repetitive. With that being said, don't skip past more than 2 or 3 minutes as you could miss important information (squeezed in between repeated angst).

Reading the second book now! This author personalizes the characters and you feel like you know them.

I did not finish

I tried, I really did, I just couldn’t take Claire’s attitude and rudeness. I totally get that she was badly burned by her husband and friend years ago but the way she treated Jonathan was frustrating. I honestly wanted him to just give up on her already but he just kept coming back.

And him, his controlling tendencies and “punishments” I did not care for. I liked him and all he’d been through and was rooting for him but It got old quick.

I still had over 8 hours to go but I just couldn’t hear anymore.

I really wanted to hear when they actually got together publicly and how the girls and everyone reacted but I guess I’ll never know....

She Sucked

I had enough of HER. I get why she felt the way she did at first but then it didn't take long for me to be sick of her. I wanted him to walk away... several times. She did so many juvenile things it just made me shale my head. OMFG! ONE thing her subs was right about and that was that she was stuck up. I don't care how pretty she was she was ridiculous . Especially since she was right there with him the whole time, fooling around with him like a consenting adult then she'd do something stupid. The only thing she did that I agreed with and actually spoke our loud right before it happened was when she hauled off and slapped the hell out of the EX tramp/friend. When the meth head momma opened her mouth as if she had a inkling of a right considering she and the husband put the kids through hell and didn't raise them even alittle plus couldn't stay clean and she listened to her no sense when he had already told her the story was done. She wanted worried about what a meth head was going to say when She had the man loving her and chasing her, NOT willing to let her go... I was done.

Resisting the boss indeed!

I have to give it to Whitney G. She definitely knows how to create an insecure female character. She also knows how to make us readers connect with her well developed characters. I wouldn’t listen to this book again because it causes me to feel strong love hate emotions towards the lead characters . All in all it’s worth a listen.
