Publisher's Summary
Number one New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr returns to the beloved town of Virgin River with a brand-new story about fresh starts, new friends, and the magic of Christmas.
Kaylee Sloan’s home in Southern California is full of wonderful memories of the woman who raised her. But the memories are prolonging her grief over her mother’s recent death. A successful author, Kaylee hoped she could pour herself into her work. Instead she has terrible writer’s block and a looming deadline.
Determined to escape distractions and avoid the holiday season, Kaylee borrows a cabin in Virgin River. She knows the isolation will help her writing, and as she drives north through the mountains and the majestic redwoods, she immediately feels inspired. Until she arrives at a building that has just gone up in flames. Devastated, she heads to Jack’s Bar to plan her next steps. The local watering hole is the heart of the town, and once she crosses the threshold, she’s surprised to be embraced by people who are more than willing to help a friend - or a stranger - in need.
Kaylee’s world is expanding in ways she never dreamed possible. And when she rescues a kitten followed by a dog with a litter of puppies, she finds her heart opening up to the animals who need her. And then there’s the dog trainer who knows exactly how to help her. As the holidays approach, Kaylee’s dread turns to wonder. Because there’s no better place to spend Christmas than Virgin River.

This book was exactly what my 2020 needed!!!! I feel like this book just hugged me tight! Virgin River has been my happy place for many years and when the series ended I felt like I lost friends so when this book was announced I was so happy. I never doubted it would be amazing. I just love all the good feels in these books. Kaylee & Landry really were exact what the other needed. I just adored their love story and how much they helped each other. The grieving process is no stranger to me and I thought this book really expressed so much how hard it can be and how the kindness and love of other can really help you heel. The ending was perfect I almost cried. This book hit all the right buttons and left me feeling lighthearted and happy. I hope that the fans of this series remind the author that VR needs to live on. As always Thérèse Plummer was AMAZING!!! She will always be Virgin River to me!

Disappointed
I think the opportunity to update all the virgin river favourites was missed with this story. I would have liked a quick update on everyone’s lives. While the story was feel good it was too good to be true. At least it made far better sense than the TV series which is just bizarre. If you read the goods the tv series doesn’t make sense.

A real miss
It could use less mom moments, more complex characters/story lines, & an actual Return to Virgin River feel. It felt like Robynn had to make another book bc of the Netflix series & phoned it in. The character of Kaylee being so weak & meager seemed off for a journalist. Landry’s former relationship seemed forced onto us quickly then dragged along just like the dead mom. I was also shocked it was read by the same narrator as the others. I thought for sure it was someone new bc the character’s voices weren’t familiar esp Jack’s. I guess she’ll have to write another with some effort to make it up to us.

Nice addition to series
Nice book that’s a nice addition to the series if you’re looking for a light reading experience. Jack and Mel, Paul and Vannie, Bree and Mike make appearances but other previous characters are only named in passing. Timelines are seriously muddled because there’s no mention of how long ago Mel arrived, and no ages of Jack’s kids, but Vannie and Paul now have 5 kids. Oh well. Plummer does a very decent job with narration.

Rather depressing
Not your typical Virgin river book. The main character was not as interesting. She seemed to be depressing through out story, and there was not much build on the love interest. Not very uplifting, or exciting, just boring.

Awesome Virgin River Series 21
I enjoyed the story straight through on a BEAUTIFUL fall day. The story has all the great elements needed for a feel good book. Just the right amount of everything all wrapped up in a tight fitting bow. Therese Plummer has the perfect voice for all the RC books in the Virgin River Series.
