The definitive biography of a legendary athlete. The Shrug. The Shot. The Flu Game. When most people think of him, they think of his beautiful shots with the game on the line, his body totally in sync with the ball - hitting nothing but net. But for all his greatness, this scion of a complex family from North Carolina's Coastal Plain has a darker side: He's a ruthless competitor and a lover of high stakes. There's never been a biography that encompassed the dual nature of his character and looked so deeply at Jordan on and off the court - until now.

Publisher's Summary
The New York Times best-selling author of The Power of Broke and "Shark" on ABC's hit show Shark Tank explores how grit, persistence, and good old-fashioned hard work are the backbone of every successful business and individual, and inspires listeners to Rise and Grind their way the top.
Daymond John knows what it means to push yourself hard - and he also knows how spectacularly a killer work ethic can pay off. As a young man, he founded a modest line of clothing on a $40 budget by hand-sewing hats between his shifts at Red Lobster. Today, his brand FUBU has over $6 billion in sales.
Convenient though it might be to believe that you can shortcut your way to the top, says John, the truth is that if you want to get and stay ahead, you need to put in the work. You need to out-think, out-hustle, and out-perform everyone around you. You've got to rise and grind every day.
In the anticipated follow-up to the best-selling The Power of Broke, Daymond takes an up close look at the hard-charging routines and winning secrets of individuals who have risen to the challenges in their lives and grinded their way to the very tops of their fields. Along the way, he also reveals how grit and persistence both helped him overcome the obstacles he has faced in life and ultimately fueled his success.

It's ok
Overall worth the listen if you've already paid for it. Painfully full of clichés, and a lot of the writing feels like it's more for teens than current or aspiring entrepreneurs. Has some good bits, and the performance aspect is good.

Good title and that’s all you need
The principle in the title is a good one. Not a lot of substance behind it in the rest of the book. Hey narrator it’s “ask” not “aks”, among others and that made it even more difficult to listen to hours of little substance.

Decent info, AWFUL performance
Typically I don’t care who is reading the information, but in this case, Sway is the absolute worst performers of an audiobook that I have ever listened to. Every day in my car as I listened or at home while making dinner, his voice pierced my ears, and his improper pronunciation (and enunciation) drove me crazy. It’s as if he ignored many punctuation marks, etc. and I had to go back just to comprehend what he had just read. The author, while slower, is someone I’d happily listen to.

I feel like I wasted my time!
Books starts off great but then dwindles and becomes dreadful. I hate to get 3 hours in a book then decide it’s become useless with still 5 hours left to go. I like to finish what I start. So I sit and listen to the remaining 5 hours, hoping for a new spark.... it never came. It may work for some or even a lot, just not my kind of book.

Forceful narration of cliches
It felt like the narrator was yelling each word separately in a monotone stream that somehow managed to sound condescending. Couldn't stand it after a while. Note that the sample is read by a different person, not the narrator. Raymond is a much warmer narrator, would have preferred him narrating the entire book. Content is cliches that don't go into any depth. Don't waste your money.

Just not worth it
I love Daymond John. His life story is an example of determination and accomplishments in multiple levels. This book, however, is not a case of success. It is boring, focused more on life stories of "high profile friends" than anything else. There are very few (any?) good tips that are new or unique. If you still wanna buy It for Daymond, go for it. But do not expect nothing out of It.

Short of its title. Good on some delivery.
I have read hundreds of motivational and thought leading books. I was very excited for this Rise and Grind. No one had overhyped this book to me. I simply was drawn to it by its title and by its author.
Its title and subsequent subtitle are probably the biggest motivating factor. Which is probably why the book sells so well. And the individuals he reaches through his career are probably very excited to read this “new” book. I won’t make any further assumptions, but they would go along the lines of, I think those who strongly follow him probably haven’t read much other inspiration and therefore on those grounds it could be life changing.
Having gone from amazing books, like Richest Man in Babylon, How to Win Friends and Influence People, The 7 Habits of HighlyEffective People, Think and Grow Rich, etc etc. Then having moved to other very influential works from more modern day like Rich Dad Poor Dad, 10x Rule, Be Obsessed or Be Average, Extreme Ownership, I fully expected another time piece. The author is well known, had amazing reviews, and a very loving title.
However this book is just average. It is cool to hear stories from other people. But it rambles, a lot. The rhythm of the book feels more like a marathon. Where the beginning is exciting, but as you run each mile, it becomes more grueling and difficult. By mile (or chapter) 20-23 you just want to put the book down. But I hate starting something and not finishing it. So I had to force myself to finish this book. The rhythm of the book became mind numbing.
The information itself is useful. Don’t get me wrong. The individuals he acquired tips from are pivotal in our current day. But it falls horribly short of what this book could be. With rambling passages and predictable cadence, I was very disappointed.
Would I read this book again? Probably not. I might refer to it from time to time. Would I recommend this book? Maybe, but only after you have read a whole lot of other books.
In conclusion, I am sad to give a poor review, but I must. This book is all hype, and falls incredibly short of delivery. Sorry Daymond and Daniel, I love what you have done for this world. But this book wasn’t a landmark. I do appreciate you guys, just dissatisfied which this particular work.
