Publisher's Summary

Some people just knew how to go out in style. Tim had never been one of those guys.

Tim was always a planner. The plan was to get into college, graduate, and find a well-paying job.

That plan was coming together nicely until he saw a presentation to get paid to play The Etheric Coast. At his graduation ceremony.

After watching the company's employee recruitment video, Big Richie's words had a whole new meaning. He could spend his life going from a cubicle at work to a one-bedroom apartment and back again...or he could take a leap of faith by entering a virtual world of unlimited possibilities. And get paid.

Now he just has to figure out how to get the job of his dreams, help his parents financially, and catch the attention of the girl of his dreams.

It was time for him to catch his wave. Tim sure hoped it didn't kill him first.

Well performed, decent story

The story is well performed. A cool premise for the game in which the world is. A little scattered at times, with a couple perspective changes that are not unwelcome but a little random and inconsistent. Has some good twist though so going to see how book 2 is and go from there

Well rounded story.

There's suspense, action, & ok character dialogue. My only suggestion which is a fairly common one; the writer describing events instead of capitalizing on character dialogue. If this was leveraged more, I believe it would capture more of the emotion & paint a much better picture.

Too descriptive

The MC must have ADHD and we get a description of his every thought in every moment. He even loses focus and goes of on unrelated tangents. Then berates himself for losing focus and describes every minute action taking place around him. Did not finish

Written to oblivion!

Reviews are of course liable to be skewed or biased, but I'll try to be as objective as possible.
It's not rare to see a novel with high potential. But it's very rare to see one written into a hot mess. Well this, is one of them.
The novel started out ok. But, the premise and early execution was quite well done - I was excited! Unfortunately, the high potential quickly turned into a hot mess
Now, apart from the clear disappointment of investing my time into a high potential novel only to see it run ragged into the dumps, here are some of my main complaints with this novel.
(1) There is no world building to speak of. The entire first volume consists of the North, West, East, and South Districts. Outside of that, there is only vague mentions of unique and important buildings in the story, literally nothing to describe anything 🙅‍♂️.Everything else is a huge mass of non-existence, this is throughout 20+ hours of content in 1x speed mind you...thankfully, I'm used to listening on 2x speed, so I didn't have to suffer that much 😪.
(2) The conversations might give you brain damage. Imagine hyperactive 6 to 7 year old kids on a sugar rush shouting all the time and babbling nonstop, while living and breathing 18+ content. Yep, that's what this novel sounds like. All 10+ hours on 2x speed of it 😱.
(3) Ties in with number 2 really. The characters are fresh out of university in their 20's, but behave like small kids. The MC is the worst. He is probably the biggest pawn I've ever seen. He says the most random, weird, and inappropriate things - all the time! I understand that the authors wanted him to seem cool by laughing and cracking jokes in the face of death too, but all these character traits just culminate into one gigantic brainless buffoon of a man-child. How can the book be good if the brightest gem is duller than a pile of "ehem"!??
(4) The jokes are god awful man. Please, just make it stop! Dry humour is bad 🥵.
(5) Finishing this novel is a slough. If not for the fact that it takes more time to look for a good novel than it does to finish this abomination that had intrigued me at the start, I would have removed this from my library in a heartbeat.
Well, the narrator was entertaining. He did well, and tried very VERY hard considering the stuff he had to work with. Hats off to you 👍.
I'm confused as to why the rest of this novel has to be bought. I mean, even if the other books were part of membership perks, I wouldn't be caught dead listening to them.
So, would I recommend this? Definitely not! There are just too many negative and annoying aspects in this novel. Could or does it get better? Maybe, but I for one don't think it's worth it to invest so much time just to find out 🙅‍♂️. But of course as with all things, matters are always subjective. What I like or dislike, may not apply to others. So take this review with a grain of salt, it's just my opinion in the end.
Toodles 👋.
