Publisher's Summary

Betrayal cuts deepest when someone you love wields the knife.

For Kellik, a once-rising star of Port Gloom's guild of thieves, it also leaves him floating in the bay, bleeding out and without hope or allies. Saved by an urchin and healed by a disgraced saint, Kellick is consumed by a single desire: to find out why his guild master ordered him cut down moments after passing his initiation trial.

Burning with injustice, Kellik recruits a number of gorgeous rogues to his side: fallen assassins, dark elf witches, and unnervingly polite necromancers. Together they journey through the shadowy underbelly of Port Gloom in pursuit of bloody revenge, daring to face impossible odds and uncover the grim truth: not only the reason for the guild's unnatural monopoly on crime, but why his guild master might have been justified in ordering his death after all.

Warning and minor spoilers: Rise of the Shadow Rogue is an 18+ audiobook intended for mature listeners. It contains graphic sex, medieval violence, and nudity. People swear, betray their loved ones, set each other on fire, seduce each other, and are scared witless by abysmal horrors. Most importantly, you'll meet gorgeous, powerful women, some capable of twisting the very fabric of fate, others of tearing a man in half with their bare hands. All are willing to enter unconventional, polyamorous harem relationships if it means helping Kellik achieve justice, and with this many powerful women on his side, he just might stand a chance.

Meh it's an OK adventure story

The story overall is heavy on action adventure with a few random sex scenes mixed in that don't relate much to the protagonist relationships. That is the protagonist seems big on "hooking up" but is confused by real relationship dynamics. Overall the story doesn't strike as having much depth and didn't really pull me in. Also the mythos such as it is seems a bit odd and not too well defined either. The whole thing has a slap dash, hack and slash, bra busting, feel to it and when you combine the shallow writing with fact it's got only a male narrator the whole thing feels kind of juvenile. But best point that would tempt me to read on would be the overall plot point about over throwing a corrupt government. But by the time I got to the end the cliff hanger that was used was so predictable that it hardly has any merit. Like it's not bad writing but it just doesn't have much depth.

I wouldn't really call this a harem or even erotic story. The protagonist doesn't really develop much in the way of permanent romances with any of his lovers though there are a couple potentials. He's got more friends with benefits going on. so less harem more random fuck buddies. And the adventure to sex ratio is pretty steep. This is more of a story to read if you like gore and violence.
