Publisher's Summary

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
#1 WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER

Deadly operative Scot Harvath faces down democracy’s most powerful enemy in #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor’s new white-knuckle thriller.

High in the Himalayas, armed with a host of barbaric, improvised weapons, Chinese troops ambush a contingent of highly decorated Indian soldiers. The brutal, hand-to-hand combat lasts for over six hours, destabilizing the already tenuous relationship between the two nuclear neighbors.

Fearful of the global consequences of engaging Beijing head-on, countless United States administrations have passed the buck.

But when a covert American diplomat tasked with negotiating an Asian version of NATO is murdered on the streets of Jaipur, doing nothing is no longer an option. It is time to unleash Scot Harvath.

As America’s top spy, Harvath has the unparalleled skills and experience necessary to handle any situation, but this mission feels different.

Thrust into a completely unfamiliar culture, with few he can trust, the danger begins to mount the moment he lands in India. Amidst multiple competing forces and a host of deadly agendas, it is nearly impossible to tell predator from prey.

With democracy itself hanging in the balance, Harvath will risk everything to untangle the explosive plot and bring every bad actor to justice.

An advance in the series

Thor had written an engaging thriller with some new or revisited international players for his series (India, Pakistan, Bulgaria)..
And a few new characters from the Indian police force and intelligence service who I hope to see again.
Last, he is handling Horvath’s aging well. There are still some escapes from tight corners and shootings of enemies, but less than before and age-appropriate.

Worst book yet by Brad Thor

This book was horrible. Just when I thought the last book was terrible. Then this one was released. I’ve enjoyed the Scott Harvath series since book 1. Unfortunately, the stories have gotten worse. This will be the last one for me. Brad Thor’s wiring for isn’t the same anymore and the narrator sounds too robotic.

Boring

I know only boring people get bored… but seriously this book was awful. I loved the earlier books but this one lacked a storyline and character development. I kept thinking it has to get better… and it never did.
Write an Athena series… scot needs a break.

Great new setting and characters

I have read all of the Scot Harvard series, and this is definitely one of my favorites. It is not the best, which I actually think is Black Ice, but the new setting of India is amazing. Additionally, the new characters of Asha, and especially VJ, are top notch.

My only criticism is the villains in this story seem pretty shallow. I was really hoping, given the build up to him, that the assassin known as “Carbon” would turn out to be a recurring foil for Scot. Other than these minor issues, this is a great read. Definitely recommend it.

Took me a few chapters, but in the end I liked it

I am a fan of Brad Thor books and I have read or listened to every book in the series. Lately I’ve been listening to other thrillers narrated by Scott Brick… so it was hard for me to listen to this narrator… in the first chapter he mispronounced a hat trick of words… at this level you just don’t expect that. His Harvath voice is a little cheesy… but by the end I was fully immersed in the content.

This book felt like Thor phoned it in a little bit… I have noticed recently that other authors are going deeper, with direct action knowledge and details that Brad’s books of late have not attained. Orphan X, James Reese, and even Jack Ryan characters are more complex. I know Thor can do it, his characters can go so many directions and I am excited for the next one… I’m a Scott Harvath fan for life!
The best part of the book, in my opinion, was the dialogue ending with gratitude! Its so true… unplug from the news, the Chaos of the internet and live a life filled with love and gratitude!!!! That’s a good word Brad Thor! Good Job!!!!

Another good book by Brad Thor

Enjoyed the story, great geopolitical thriller. My biggest criticism, which I have for many of the Scott Harvath series is the third act feels rushed. The author builds a great story, with incredible details, but then finishes the book very quickly, tying up loose ends in minutes. He also leaves a lot of unanswered questions and unresolved plot points (which may come up in subsequent books). Overall an enjoyable story.

Written by computer?

Stock, formulaic characters, dumb plot, Had to skip ahead as the trite thriller was an obvious and predictable bore. Save your money on this one.

What happened to you Brad Thor?

Im terribly sad about this book. What a disappointment. The storyline started off well, but did not keep my interest. Weak in many areas and didn’t make sense. The characters were not well thought out or interesting. They were all over the place, but went no where.
Come on. Smoke bombs in a dojo? Really?

Just boring

I've followed Horvath for years but I think I might have reached the end of the line. A small story with little scope. I forced myself to finish. Very disappointing.

A let down.

Nothing like the pre-TDS days for Thor. What a let down. Don't waste your time.
