Publisher's Summary

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world's deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora's been groomed to be the perfect queen. She's intelligent and brave and honorable. But she's yet to show any trace of the magic she'll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora's mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He'll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks - storm magic. And the people selling it? They're not Stormlings. They're storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there's a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage. She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she's brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

I can’t wait for the next one!!!!!!

Everything I need in a good teen fantasy. A stunning world and culture as well as amazing characters and just a hint of romance created by this amazing author. On top of this beautiful world and characters that I so easily fell in love with Cora Carmack amazed me with the way she gave storms human-like properties. I don’t want to give too much away but this is one of my favourite books and I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy (teen or adult)
I can’t wait for the next book.

Great Story/Narration; Too Much Romance

This book had all the makings of an epic fantasy series just waiting to be unleashed.
A world ravaged by different types of storms that only a select few born with a specific affinity can control? Sounds great to me! And to be fair, those parts WERE great; as were the elements of underground magic, political intrigue, family legacy, wealth vs poverty, betrayal & corruption, unlikely friendships, etc that were present throughout the tale.
Unfortunately, those elements were touched on only briefly in favor of a predictable & formulaic love story getting far too much air time. To be clear, the romance in this book is not without purpose. Had it played more of a background role, I would have been far more invested in it. However, instead of a fantasy novel with a romantic element, this read more like a romance novel in a sci-fi/fantasy world.
If excessive romantic tension doesn't bother you, then the world building, enormous array of characters & captivating sub-plot all make this a book worth reading/listening to. (The narration was FANTASTIC). If you prefer your fantasy reads without the long, wistful gazes, deep passionate kisses & detailed descriptions of hands gliding over feminine curves, you'll probably want to give this one a pass.

So freaking good

I had no expectations when I started listening to this book I didn’t read what it was about until 60% into the story, but even still I was pleasantly surprised. although the main character is unsure of herself she still strong and competent she makes decisions for herself changing what I thought would be the plot of the story and surprising me along the way.
near the end of the book I was even crying her pain became my pain she felt very real and you get a couple POV which had me conflicted about love interests. If this was an adult book I would be disappointed there was not more spice but seeing that it is a young adult novel it’s exactly as it should be, luckily I have a very good imagination and I can put down the book and imagine whatever I want. I cannot wait to read/listen to the next book in the series I’m also surprised I have not heard more about this book on booktock it is that good. This book is definitely a fantasy romance and romance is definitely a large part of the book it is not the entire part there is definitely a plot intrigue danger and adventure everything I was looking for I could not put this down I stayed up late and I’m already thinking about book two.

The Perfect Upper YA Romance

I loved everything about this book. It had complex characters, a unique world and magic system, and a well-paced romance. I’m invested in the story and cannot wait to read book 2. I would recommend this for upper YA as some of the romantic scenes are descriptive.

How is this free?

A bit predictable but has good twists that caught me off guard. I really like the world being built up, and the characters!! Will be reading the series, so look for my reviews:)

great listen!

I have listened to a lot of crappy audiobooks and it is always such a joy to come across of a little gem of a series like this one. Especially great if you are a taller female and want a protagonist you can identify with instead of wee helpless females. It has a good story and I'm very much looking forward to the third book.

Fantastic World Building Concept

Honestly, I don't think I've read a book with this concept and I loved it! The world building really sucks you in. Highly recommend.
