À propos de cet audio
A foster mother must contend with the emotional turmoil of her new blended family in a heartfelt novel of hope and second chances by New York Times bestselling author Catherine Ryan Hyde.
Maggie Blount, divorced mother of two and California physician, puts her private practice on hold when disaster strikes. Doctors on Wheels takes her and Alex—Maggie’s professional and romantic partner—wherever they’re needed. After rolling into rural Louisiana in the wake of a category five hurricane, Maggie immediately bonds with two sisters and their puppy, all orphaned by the storm. It’s enough to break Maggie’s heart, and she’s not leaving them behind.
Feeling blessed and looking forward to their new foster home in affluent Vista del Mar—a world apart from the one they’ve known—Jean and Rose are polite, appreciative, and humble. Frankly, they're the polar opposite of Maggie’s own self-involved teenage daughters, Willa and Gemma, who resist this intrusion by strangers into their privileged lives. Soon enough, Maggie’s new blended family is in chaos.
Teaching Willa and Gemma about gratitude and empathy will be hard enough. Maggie must also admit her own role in their entitled upbringing, undo the damage, and anticipate the needs of all four girls and a puppy, all amid faraway natural disasters and those closer to home.

Happy Doll is a charming, if occasionally inexpert, private detective living just one sheer cliff drop beneath the Hollywood sign with his beloved half-Chihuahua half-Terrier, George. A veteran of both the Navy and LAPD, Doll supplements his meager income as a P.I. by working through the night at a local Thai spa that offers its clients a number of special services. Armed with his 16-inch steel telescopic baton, biting dry humor, and just a bit of a hero complex, the ex-cop sets out to protect the women who work there from clients who have trouble understanding the word "no".

After being fired from his last two jobs, Ryan Clark lands an associate position with a law firm run by his distant cousin, Tom, in a small North Carolina town. Over twenty-five years earlier, Tom represented local man Joe Moore when he was convicted of murder in the deaths of a prominent young couple. Even though the evidence was circumstantial, Joe was high on drugs and doesn't remember the details of the crime. He never seriously questioned his own guilt, but Joe's family remains unconvinced of his guilt, and they hire Ryan and Tom to file a motion to obtain Joe's release.

Histoire
A modern story of family, I’ll Come to You chronicles intersecting lives over the course of one year—1995—anchored by the anticipation and arrival of a child. With empathy, insight, and humor, Rebecca Kauffman explores overlapping narratives involving a couple whose struggle to become pregnant has both softened and hardened them; a woman whose husband of forty years has left her for reasons he’s unwilling to share and the man who is now attempting to woo her; and a couple in denial about a looming health crisis as well as their son who is fumbling toward middle age and can’t stop lying.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“Prolific and popular novelist Hyde (Life, Loss, and Puffins) produces another emotional roller coaster…A complex human story told in Hyde’s straightforward style, with plenty to discuss and disagree over in book groups.”—Library Journal
“Hyde’s writing, the dialogue, the events and the messages are powerful and engaging. She demonstrates that through kindness and compassion, we can change a small piece of the world.”—Bookreporter

Short & Sweet
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
Messages I wasn’t keen on – that spoiled children need public shaming to become “better“ human beings; that poor people naturally have nicer personalities; that it’s fine for children to risk their lives saving a pet and their impoverished family should be fine with paying expensive vet bills afterwards; that a mother could be justified in (basically) replacing her bratty kids.
On the plus side, the performance was excellent, and the story was mostly compelling. The ending just irked with the mother exposing her children to public scorn over private family issues.
Good premise but conclusion mixed
