One of the most well researched books I've ever read! The author takes you on an emotional journey from Kinta's village in Africa to his cruel new home in America. An absolute masterpiece and must read!

Story from my youth brought back to life with this Audiobook. Great narration. Didn’t know or had forgotten that it was the tale of Alex Hayley’s family. Extraordinary! The final chapter bringing the whole thing to the present.

I remember when I was a kid our family watched the roots TV series and I remember being shocked at how people could treat others with such disregard. But also for how well the author told his families story. The performance of the narrator in this book captured that feeling again for me. Now that I'm in my 40's I can appreciate this story much better then when I was 10 but it still hits the same way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who like history and likes to learn about things from the past.

I first read this book in my teens and listening to this audio version many decades later, the impact is no less greater and an emotional rollercoaster. It's is so appalling to comprehend the evil that the slave trade was. The ghost still haunts our society centuries after its so called demise. Alex Haley's works and name is imprinted in history for all time.

I had no idea—absolutely NO IDEA—about the origins and realities of slavery, nor how it all unfolded. Through "Roots" by Alex Haley, I gained a profound understanding of Black history in North America. While there are discussions about the complete accuracy of the events portrayed in this book, I believe it serves a crucial purpose in enhancing our comprehension of the experiences endured by Black individuals during this era. The narrative is truly compelling and enlightening, but be prepared for some scenes that are graphically described and challenging to absorb.

Kudos to the narrator, who truly brought this book to life with a dynamic delivery, employing multiple voices and reading with exceptional vivacity.
