Story
Hot-shot lawyer McKenna Keaton finds herself in hot water with her own law firm when she’s (falsely!) accused of embezzlement. Placed on unpaid leave, she suddenly finds herself with the free time to return home and attend her youngest sister’s wedding activities. But it’s not all fun and games. Waiting back home is shy, nerdy Henry Blumenthal—McKenna’s high school rival for valedictorian who once took three hours to beat her at chess. Scratch that. He’s Hank Blume now, the famed documentarian, Durham, North Carolina’s, darling son.

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Heads always turned when Rose McCarthy walked into a room. Nearly six feet tall, she was ramrod straight, and impeccably put together with faultless style, long graceful legs, her snow-white hair cut in a chin-length rounded cap. Publisher's Summary
In this spellbinding tale from Danielle Steel, a princess is sent away to safety during World War II, where she falls in love, and is lost forever.
As the war rages on in the summer of 1943, causing massive destruction and widespread fear, the King and Queen choose to quietly send their youngest daughter, Princess Charlotte, to live with a trusted noble family in the country. Despite her fiery, headstrong nature, the princess' fragile health poses far too great a risk for her to remain in war-torn London.
Third in line for the throne, 17-year-old Charlotte reluctantly uses an alias upon her arrival in Yorkshire, her two guardians the only keepers of her true identity. In time, she settles comfortably into a life out of the spotlight, befriending a young evacuee and training with her cherished horse. But no one predicts that in the coming months she will fall deeply in love with her protectors' son.
She longs for a normal life. Far from her parents, a tragic turn of events leaves an infant orphaned. Alone in the world, that child will be raised in the most humble circumstances by a modest stable manager and his wife. No one, not even she, knows of her lineage. But when a stack of hidden letters comes to light, a secret kept for nearly two decades finally surfaces, and a long lost princess emerges.
A fascinating story of family and royalty, and an unforgettable portrait of an extraordinary young woman and the man who brings her home, Royal is an exhilarating work from America's most beloved storyteller.

Incredibly Repetitive, Do not Recommend
I have been known to enjoy a romance novel, even a mass-produced one. I expected the plot to be predictable (it was) but I was frustrated by how repetitive the narrative was. Either Danielle Steel thinks her readers can't hold minor details in their head for a few paragraphs, or she has forgotten that she has already included the details... over and over and over again. There are other prolific romance writers out there that, though they are also predictable, are a much more enjoying read/escape. I will not read/listen to another Danielle Steel book and I advise that it is not worth your time.

Feels like a first draft.
It's very "tell" instead of "show". It felt very chopped, without any actual plot. it's more about horses than royalty. There is NO character development. the entire time I kept thinking "Ok, they're telling us about the back story, the ACTUAL story is going to start soon" definitely felt like a first draft rather than a finished story.

Should be a short story
This was reminiscent of watching an episode of the Young and the Restless where every chapter there is a recap of the last. The entire book could have been a short story. It was quite frustrating that the author assumed her readers wew that simple minded. I wouldnt recommend this book.

Author repeats herself too much
I liked the story, but the writing was so repetitive! She would say the same thing 4 different ways in one paragraph, then summarize! It drove me crazy. I don’t think I’ve read any other of this authors books, and I likely won’t because of the repetition.w

Awful
So predictable and boring. The author seemed just repeating the same thing over and over again. Sometimes using different words, other times the exact same words and phrases. It was like watching a tv show that does a recap of what has already happened after it comes back from commercial. Total waste of time.

Loved the story despite the repetitiveness
I was worried getting this based on the reviews which said it was repetitive. I’m glad I forged ahead anyhow. It was a good story with likable characters. There is quite a bit of repetition and also a couple of places where the story and the characters’ emotions didn’t line up with what you had already been told and the outcome felt a bit unnatural but since it was a “paint by numbers” romance, the storyline was easy to figure out. The narrator was easy on the ears and did a great job. I like stories that don’t require a lot of thinking for my daily commute to work (so I can concentrate on traffic) and this was a great fit.

Not quite up to snuff
The biggest problem I have with the novel is its flat characters. Too many perhaps to flesh them out. This easily could have been made in to a series. The writing is good but the lack of character development left the novel lifeless. Like a good plot outline without the humanity.

Read like a teen novel
As I was listening to this book I kept thinking it felt like a teen novel/love story. Most of it was from a young persons point of view, which is fine, but not so much to my interest. The characters were okay, and very much similar to other Danielle Steel characters. Narration was good.
