Publisher's Summary

Brooke Chapman-Powell takes her position as the Earl of Englefield’s personal secretary very seriously. This job is what keeps her sister in the university for the deaf and the town from completely shutting down. But the earl is dying, and they have only one hope: an American, from some place called Salvation, Virginia.

Now she will have to teach the in-all-likelihood-uncouth-and-lazy half American how to be a proper earl if they hope to save the village. God help them all.

Nick Vane has about two gazillion things that land higher on his to-do list than becoming an English earl. Things like naps. Hosting poker nights. Oh, and raking in the profits from his latest invention. But accepting the title that his grandfather has denied him since birth? It doesn’t even register. But Miss Prim-and-Proper won’t give up, and before he knows what’s what, he is on a plane to London.

He has too much pride to go down easily, and she’s got too much propriety to ever break the rules. They are as different as a cocktail fork and a bread knife - and the clash between them lands these two in the most unexpected positions.

Fate Has Other Plans

4.5
This is a fun, lite hearted, quirky book, that I enjoyed reading. Nick is a brilliant, wealthy, sexy man with a chip on his shoulder regarding his parental history. Brooke is strong, smart, sassy, stubborn female who fears that she won’t be taken serious because of past relationship. The sparks fly between these two from the start, both sexually and in their banter. It was fun reading how these two put the other in their place.

The writing is easy to read, and the story is fun. The side characters added something to the story. Flynn did a really good job of including both the estate and the village in the story, they were treated like characters adding spice to the story. They also were used to show characteristics within each of the main characters.

While Nick’s paternal side was covered in the story, I wish that it had been done more in depth. While I really enjoyed this story, for me it felt like something was missing, or left incomplete and I think it was that.

I recommend this story to anyone who is looking for a story with strong characters and not a lot of angst. There are problems both real and imagined for these characters, but that’s about it. It’s one of those fun summer reads that will having you smiling by the end (I loved Nick’s romantic gesture).

I listened to this book on audio. The narrator did a good job of changing his voice when speaking for other characters so that it was easy to distinguish. He was easy to follow and understand.

Good Story with Great Narration

This feel good story was fun to listen to. The narration by John Lane was fantastic. I loved the different voices he used for the various characters. It was fun listening to him switch back and forth between an English accent and an American voice. Well worth the listen!!

Erotica or family drama? Neither

Even the lamest Erotica wraps up the plot points it presents. This had so many interesting plot points so I assumed it would have depths around the explicit sex scenes I fasted thru. I kept listening to see if or how they resolved them. Magically. That’s the answer poof all of the issues just stopped being addressed. It went: angst angst angst listing of issues listing of issues and then poof abandonment explanations, Alzheimers all of it just disappeared and they lived happily ever after. An annoying book, especially since it had potential.

Pretty Bad

I'm all for fluffy romances but this one was pathetic, even considering it was free. The male lead is not at all likeable and the language sucks.

Such a well written and witty romance!

Nick and Brooke! I loved everything about this book. It’s funny and serious, with romance.
I really love John Lane his performance was perfect! Nick took his new position with so many mixed emotions and I was so confused and mad. Because of the old Earl’s behavior towards Nick.
Brooke and Nick are perfect for each other.
As I listened to this book I laughed out loud, once again John Lane is an amazing narrator.
This is a slow paced romance storyline but with so much character and angst.
I discovered this awesome author through Audible and I am hooked on her books!

Great story but…

I feel that the story could have used one or more chapters. He never learned how and why his father died and the earls condition. Feels unfinished
I love this writer and I own a lot of her books

My kind of HEA

The storyline was not what I expected, it was much better. The narrator does a great job, I just prefer a female doing female roles. Really enjoyed this. Sweet and just enough humor.

A Royal Love Story

The story about Brooke. and Nick was very good. Their love was unconventional but appropriate for their circumstances. The characters are very v real as is the dialogue. If you like feisty heroines and strong males, you will adore this novel.

Good read

I enjoyed the story. The narration was good. They did a great job with the accents. The man’s voice did not match the cover of the book.
