Publisher's Summary
In this book I'll show you how I turned $1,000 into $1 million in only five years, and then proceeded to make many millions more. I came to investing as a person who wasn't great at math, possessed zero extra cash, and wanted a life, not an extra three hours of work to do every day.
Fortunately, I was introduced to The Rule.
Rule #1, as famed investor Warren Buffett will tell you, is don't lose money. Through an intriguing process that I'll clarify in this book, not losing money results in making more money than you ever imagined. What it comes down to is buying shares of companies only when the numbers, and the intangibles, are on your side. If that sounds too good to be true, it's because the mind-set I'll be introducing you to leads not to bets but to certainties. Believe me, if there were anything genius-level about this, I'd still be a river guide collecting unemployment much of the year.
What I won't waste your time with is fluff: a lot of vague parables reminding you of what you already know and leaving you exactly where you started. This is the real deal, folks: a start-to-finish, one-baby-step-at-a-time approach that will allow you to retire 10 years sooner than you planned, with more creature comforts than you ever imagined.
What the critics say
"Town's investment guide is manna from heaven....A detailed, step-by-step program that can be understood by any reader with basic math skills....[Town's] chummy, reassuring tone will leave readers feeling empowered and ready to manage their money themselves." (Publishers Weekly)

the best beginner investment book I've ever read
loved it. anyone who is wanting to start investing, and has the background information (down basic financial statement knowledge), this is the PERFECT book to listen to.
step by step, simple, and no no I sense approach.
I've read many books and watched many videos on investing, and this is one of the very best. examples are a bit outdated but the principles don't change.

My opinion
I’m a big fan of Phil Town, I’ve enjoyed all his books so far and have found them quite informative. I’ve been investing for about 5 years now, and have done well, but with my technical background I have a preference to structured approaches. Phil lays out a clear and precise path to follow, and I would recommend this book highly to newer and maybe even intermediate investors.

Abridged inspiration
This book is fabulous inspiration for taking charge of your own financial future. The author does a great job reading his own material; his voice is warm and likeable - it is like getting great advice from a friend. Bear in mind though that this is an abridged edition and doesn't really cover the nitty-gritty details of Rule investing. To really put the Rule into practice, you will have to buy the hard copy of the book. But you may still find yourself re-listening to this audio version for calm reassurance and added inspiration.

Get Excited
I bought this audiobook in response to reading "The Little Book that Beats the Market". As a beginning investor I was looking for something fundamental that had a higher degree of analysis as I was willing to put in the time. I was quite pleased with the information presented, but would have to agree with the previous reviewer. This is the abridged version. While it may get you excited it seems to lack some of the depth required to fully execute the Rule#1 method. For example, there are a set of numbers referred to as "The Big Five" In this version rather than discussing how one arrives at these numbers the reader is instructed to go to the author's website to learn about them. As a result this book does not stand alone as a complete reference. I will likely purchase the text. Regarding the substance of the material presented, I cannot speak to the validity of this approach to investing, but plan to try it. The book is an easy listen and the narrator/author is neither patronizing or too wooden which no doubt has contributed to the success of his motivational speaking business.

Really good book.
I bought the abridged version as recommended by another reader. It was well narrated and very interesting, easy to follow. It was the sort of info that can help someone who wants to invest or start investing but isn't sure where to begin. I've read other investing books and have done a little investing with stocks. This book gave me some valuable info on how to proceed with growth investing. I bought the paper back and am now reading it. It is good as well. Another book which I found exceptional for investing info is "The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing" by Jason Kelly. His newsletter is worth signing up for as well.

This book helps me
I am currently trying to buy microcap stocks at a penny higher than the bid and sell it for a penny less than the ask. This is a self taught strategy, and as a beginner, I think this book carries me from where I am to a more informed strategy. I think I'll try what he says for a year and maybe I'll deviate to fit what works for me.
If you like companies that are less than 10 years old, then some of what he says will not apply. He compares 10 year data with five year and one year.
