Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Another Great Prepper Book!
I have a love for books about how when society breaks down good people will survive and overcome. It won't be easy and there will be trials along the way but good will overcome. This book is another great addition to the genre. The narrator does a great job with the characters and keeps you interested.

Who do you trust
Do you rely on the government and people to do the fright thing? How far will someone go to get what they want? Are the people you know going to turn their back on you for their benefit? How will people get revenge? This great narrated book puts good law abiding people into these trials. Who will be saved and who will not be saved.

Fun, fast-paced adventure
I love a good post-apocalyptic survival series, particularly when it has a unique flavor. The Survival Rules Series stands out as a character-driven story in a post-apocalyptic setting. Rules of Conflict is the second in this series about a fractured family (father and two sons) forced to reunite after the world goes dark. Ironically, it was the father's fear of such an event -- and the brutal and abusive training he forced upon his sons to ensure they would be prepared -- that caused the fracture in the first place. The book has many of the typical elements of the genre, such as escaped criminals, hysterical (and unprepared) citizens, crashing planes, and the like. However, the characters' relationships remain the focus, as they attempt to navigate the new world with which they are suddenly faced.
The author developed the characters well and allows them to unfold naturally instead of telling the reader who they are or forcing their personalities through awkward dialogue. Like some other reviewers, I struggled to find anything remotely likeable about the main female character, particularly in the first book of the series, but she begins to come around in this book and becomes much more tolerable. As a character-focused tale, I understand why she is portrayed in this manner, and I see that she, like the others, grows and develops throughout the series. Otherwise, the author did a commendable job creating multi-faceted characters with clear and logical motivations. Even the deeply-flawed father has redeeming qualities.
Miles Meili does a very good job with the narration. My only criticism is that his voice for the younger brother seemed too young -- almost like a teenager -- when, in fact, he is in his mid 20's. But with so many male characters in the story, I understand that he needed to differentiate them in some way. Otherwise, the narration was on point.
I really enjoyed this book, and I finished it in only a few days. Although I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review, I purchased the first book of the series with my own credit. I enjoyed the first one enough to immediately start listening to this one, and I will purchase the third book, as well. I recommend the series if you enjoy apocalyptic fantasy, character fiction, action, and adventure.

the struggle to survive continues
Rules of Conflict, the 2nd book in the Survival Rules series, picks up shortly after the end of Rules of Survival, and continues to follow the struggles of Tyler Ford, his friends, family, and the people Whitefish, Montana. This is a solid post apocalyptic thriller and features a solid cast of characters (no spoilers but some of them you'll absolutely love to hate), a lot of fast paced action, and multiple interconnected intriguing storylines (one of which was surprisingly dark). And the ending definitely left me wondering about what comes next.

Ok
The first of this series I wanted to so slap the girl. This book you are like “just kill them all off already.’ For men trained in survival they are kinda stupid. The women, I just shake my head. To much going on. Three side stories and the MC wandering around looking for someone to help him. I’ll only get the next in this series when there is nothing else to read.
