Publisher's Summary

Coming home should be the easiest thing in the world, but I've never felt more lost....

When his stellar military career comes to an abrupt and terrible end, 32-year-old Maddox Kent returns to the town he never planned to step foot into again, hoping to mend the rift he himself caused with the brother he left behind. But coming home means facing some hard truths about himself and his actions. When he has the chance to start making amends by helping his brother with the wildlife sanctuary he runs, Maddox is thrown another curveball when a stranger appears....

As long as we keep moving, everything will be okay. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway....

For 21-year-old Isaac, Pelican Bay is only supposed to be a stopping point on the trek from San Francisco to New York. With his little brother, Newt, in tow, Isaac is just looking to make things right by returning something of value to a person he wronged. But "getting lost" in the next big city proves to be a problem when the brutal Minnesota winter claims Isaac's car and strands him and Newt at the animal sanctuary. When the owners of the place offer him a job, a desperate Isaac agrees, despite the presence of a man Isaac instinctively knows could be his downfall....

It should be so easy to let him go, but I can't. And not just because I want to protect him....

Nothing about Isaac makes sense to Maddox. Not his piercings or makeup or flashy clothes. And most certainly not the snarky mouth that doesn't match the vulnerability Maddox sees in the younger man's eyes. But one thing does make sense to the hardened former soldier. Isaac is running from something, and Maddox's gut is telling him not to let Isaac and little Newt go until he can ferret out the truth.

Very Good!

It is hard to say what part of the story was my favourite. It was all good. I will probably go back to it again and again. The Narrator was great at bringing out the emotions of this novel. Look forward to getting the next novel of this series on Audible.

solid story with a kinky twist

I was so excited at the end of the last book the Discover Isaac and Newt and could not wait for their story. I really enjoyed the story and I felt like it tugged at my Heartstrings. all the characters were wonderful and I adored Newton and Loki. I'm looking forward to the next book and I'm hoping that is Jet in Ford and not Ford and Cam.
typically I love when Michael Pauley narrates a book but this time I wasn't a huge fan. there were times where I felt like he was a bit too much for a scene. Also when he does Maddox voice sometimes it seems to shift and I had to remember whose POV we were listening to.
he does use some of the best sex scenes but sometimes it's a bit harsh when I feel it should be more intimate, in this book was an example of that. But he nailed it when he did Newton's voice.
all-in-all in all I would definitely recommend this book and the book before it and I cannot wait for the next book.

I. Love. This Story. GREAT!

Maddox and Issac's story was so suspenseful. I could not predict where their story would take me. And I fell in love with Newt, Issac's little brother. His role was an important part of this exciting plot. The narration was GREAT! If you want to just chill out, while listening to an amazing story, you are at the right place. I highly recommend this read. ENJOY!

Best M/M romance story I've listened to!

I loved this story and the many interesting characters in it - from 4 year old Newt to grandfather Aaron; estranged brothers Dallas and Maddox; Nolan, Sawyer, Ford and Isaac; Jerry the ornery zebra, Loki the half wolf, Gentry the bear, and Snotrod of the kitten - and the drama and romance that unfolds. Michael Pauley did a phenomenal job voicing each one. Excellent!

So hot and so sweet, and so hot! 🔥

My favorite trope is enemies to lovers! No actual enemies exactly, but misunderstandings with grumpy and cautious lead up to some super hot 🔥 scenes! When the author can do so much with just looks, whispers, and kisses... Well you know you got the good stuff! This IS the good stuff!! Nothing like a bonus kink to really seal the deal! As usual, Kennedy nails it!
How does Micheal Dean do it? Perfect delivery EVERY time! I often read the story while listening to it, and I swear he picks up on the most subtle things you might miss while just reading the book. You get SO much more from the story when you have the privilege of listening to Michael Dean read it to you!

5+++++

Sloan is one of my favorite authors. The stories are well balanced. The steamy parts are not not too long but are appropriate to support the characters . The outcome is an interesting story that keeps me engaged and entertained.

Great story

Book 2 in the series doesn’t disappoint! This one brings a beautiful young man into the wildlife sanctuary. His gentle yet ferocious care of his 4 year old brother, his bravado in the face of challenges large and small, his skittishness, his trust issues- they all point towards something deeper. Then there is our soldier who has just put his relationship back together with his own family at the sanctuary. This gruff, closed off, mysterious man. This story is interesting in the way it portrays the seemingly straight man coming to terms with a full on attraction to someone he, at first, distrusts and the way he shares that attraction to his love interest. The story unfolds in true Kennedy style- lots of bumps and hiccups, a twist or two of heart palpitations and angst- but nothing too teenage girly. Throw in guyliner, gauges and lipgloss, as well as silk panties bullies, PTSD, and a newfound family member and this story throws quite a surprise party. In the end, there truly is a happily ever after! Michael Dean- Kudos again on great acting! His narration draws you in and lets you feel the story instead of just hearing it.
