Trite, tired dialogue
I could hardly finish this audio book. I cannot understand how anyone could give it high ratings. The reading was uninspired which was bad enough but the story often sounded like a romance book with talk of bulging muscles and leaping ovaries. The dialogue was simplistic and too often trite. As the story developed I found myself not even caring who committed the crime. I love complex characters and plot line and a story where the writing is so good it can be read again and again just for the beauty of the words. Unfortunately none of that was true with this book. Only glad I used points and did not pay for this download.

Too many Cliches
The narrator for this book is wonderful. Perfect ,appropriate cadence, each character has their own voice without any confusion as to who is speaking.
The story starts out well and then turns in to a bad , made for TV movie. Never has a criminal actually ever uttered the cliches that they spew in this book. Even when the bad guy is thinking to himself , the words are so contrived and ridiculous.
You'll figure out who did it and who didn't simply by listening to the verbal neon signs the author has penned.
I wanted to like this book. I did not like this book.
It's of the Harlequin Romance variety of "thriller s".
Don't wast your credit.

Too heavy on the romance too light on the mystery
this was an "ok" book, but I don't require or particulary care for my mystery novels to contain romantic fluff, and this book contained more fluff than most..

You'll say you're sorry ...
Have you ever listened to a book and then afterward, thought "now what was that book all about?" This is THAT book ... now to be honest, maybe it was just me, but I just finished listening to this book and I only know somebody got killed; there was something about someone being molested; someone died in Afghanistan; somebody had some children (3 and a roommate on dialysis) ... blah, blah, blah. Because the author never really fleshed out any of her characters or maybe because she tried to have too many incidents all mixed in together, I never got a good hold on this book. Thus, it was just "okay" ... if you find another book that's cheaper or has more stars in the rating, go for that one first. This one can wait until you're so bored you start counting your teeth backwards! Or else, like me, you'll be the one saying you're sorry -- and I never found out who or what the title related to.

Too sappy
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would change the characters. Morgan is too precious: strong but vulnerable. The narration exacerbated this problem. I felt I was listening to a Harlequin romance with a murder stuck in for good measure.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the premise.
Would you be willing to try another one of Cris Dukehart’s performances?
Probably not.
Do you think Say You're Sorry needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It's part of a series, which was one reason I purchased the book. But I would not buy another book in this series.
Any additional comments?
I'm in a bit of a rut lately. I rely on NYT recommendations. Sometimes those work well for me: Educated was FANTASTIC. But this novel was anemic. The characters are flat and uninteresting. The narration was gratingly precious. Her voicing of Lance is cringeworthy.

Fast paced and compelling
The plot and action were exciting. A terrible murder occurs (starts the whole book) and the wrong kid is accused. Morgan gives up a good job to defend the kid. There's a love interest. And some good subplots. The only thing I didn't like is some of the romantic stuff sounded a bit like dimestore romance --ugh!

Really like this new series... RECOMMENDED!
I've enjoyed almost everything I've read by Melinda Leigh and this one does not disappoint.
This is the first book in a new series. The protagonist is Morgan Dana. She's a former big city prosecutor getting ready to go to work for a small town prosecutor until her neighbor is arrested for killing his ex girlfriend. Now she must tell her new boss that she doesn't want the job after all because she is going to be working for the other side. The events that follow are full of suspense and although the clues could point to maybe three different suspects it's the one they don't point to who committed the crime.
There are a few overtones of romance between Morgan and her investigator but it only fleshed out the story and did not overshadow the main plot.
Chris Dukehart does an excellent job narrating. She actually performs male voices very well.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Nice start to a new suspense series!
Of the 8 Melinda Leigh books I have listened to her Rogue Winter novellas are my favorites, but the Morgan Dane series has great promise. Dane is a prosecutor who comes from a line of cops. She is also a mother of three young children who recently lost her husband to violence as she had lost her father earlier. Her maternal grandfather, a retired cop, is helping her with her children. When a teen boy she knows is charged with murdering his girlfriend, Morgan finds herself defending rather than prosecuting for the first time.
Say You're Sorry is an excellent start to an interesting new series. I am not a fan of narrator Chris Dukehart. She does an okay job with this novel. Kate Rudd has narrated some other Melinda Leigh books and in my opinion she would be a better fit with this series.

Predictable...
If you think you know who the killer is, right at the beginning, you probably do. If you think the sexual tension, between the protagonist and her sidekick is going to be stretched out, it is. And, why do female narrators always have to do such RIDICULOUS voices for the male characters? I made it through the book, but with a lot of sarcastic commentary... Definitely won’t be getting the 2nd installment...
