Story
War hero Alistair Carsington really really loves women, and his romantic impulses have landed him in nearly as much danger as the Battle of Waterloo. To avoid his usual temptations and perhaps even repay the friend who saved his life, he's exiled himself to a place far from civilization - Derbyshire - in winter! Fate laughs at his good intentions and drives him straight into conflict with Miss Mirabel Oldridge, his match in tenacity, intelligence, and deviousness - who also happens to be wildly irresistible.

Story
Lethally charming Simon Blair, Marquess of Lisburne, has reluctantly returned to London for one reason only: a family obligation. Still, he might make time for the seduction of a certain redheaded dressmaker - but Leonie Noirot hasn't time for him. She's obsessed with transforming his cousin, the dowdy Lady Gladys, into a swan. Leonie's skills can coax curves - and profits - from thin air, but his criminally handsome lordship is too busy trying to seduce her to appreciate her genius. He needs to learn a lesson, and the wager she provokes ought to teach him, once and for all.

Publisher's Summary
“One of the finest romance authors of all time.” (Julia Quinn)
New York Times best-selling author Loretta Chase follows her historical romance gem, Silk is for Seduction (nominated for 2011 Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award for Best Regency-Set Historical Romance) with yet another winner.
This time, Scandal Wears Satin, as the second sister from a somewhat scandalous aristocratic family - the purveyors of one of London’s most fashionable shops - finds passion and a love as sumptuous as the gorgeous gowns she creates.
Superstar romance author Susan Elizabeth Phillips says Loretta Chase has “a rare talent for creating crackling sexual tension and characters so fresh and compelling that readers won’t be able to forget them.”
Chase fans, as well as Stephanie Laurens and Julia Quinn listeners, will most assuredly agree - especially when they meet feisty Sophy and the rakish earl whose help (and heart) she enlists in order to win the patronage of a dowager lady.

A Frothy Delight
I enjoyed this installment of the Dressmakers much more than the first one. it is even more enjoyable after reading Dukes Prefer Blondes and knowing what eventually happens with Clara. I love the Dressmaker series because they are full of historical details and have wonderful settings, secondary characters and plots. And L Chase was in very fine form as a writer with this series.
Longmore and Sophie really grew on me with second and third readings. They are so unlike most of her other couples--not carrying huge emotional burdens, just two people dealing with an attraction that turns into love, surprising them both. It was refreshing to read Chase write a simpler, but no less exciting, romance. As usual, she brings depths of feeling to it all and it was very genuine and sweet in the end.
Loretta Chikani aka Chase is simply the best writer of historical romance, hands down, bar none. Her knowledge of the Regency Era puts all other pretenders to the throne to shame. This novel alone is master class in the genre, and it's not even the best in the series.
The great Kate Reading is especially good for the whole Dressmaker series, but this one had her use her French accent too much, which drives me crazy as did the "he said, she said." Hence, I deduct one star. Otherwise, perfection.

Witty
I didn't think I'd like the Dressmakers trilogy, but I should have known better. The narrator dis a great job capturing the H and even better job capturing the h. Now, on to book 3!

Zzzzzzzzzz boring boring
I like LC and the narrator but this was a fail! What a disappointed, boring, waste of credit.
The story is so dumb, the "he said, she said" is so old in these LC stories. No fun, no connection, zero story other than he grabs her then she pounds with her fists until she smells him, surprise surprise!

Entertaining story
I enjoyed the story. The narrator was fantastic. The only negative, the “he said/ she said “ was making me crazy. I noticed that in the first book, but it was worse in the second funny I didn’t notice that when I actually read the box the first time.

A bit disappointing
I loved the first book in this series, but this one was mediocre and the amount of HE SAID, SHE SAID drove me MAD! I really hope the next book is way better.

Enjoyable
While I am very pleased with this series I do have one suggestion. Please refrain from using the word said after each character speaks. Fortunately Kate Reading does a remarkable job of saying the he/she saids very softly.
Usually when an author uses the word said to extreme I will not try another product of theirs.
Loretta Chase’s books, with the assistance of Kate Reading, will not fall into the avoid category!
