Publisher's Summary

"There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." (John 15:13)

Just days before Chad Williams was scheduled to report for basic training at the Great Lakes naval base, he turned on the television and was greeted with the horrifying image of his mentor and training partner, US Navy SEAL Scott Helvenston, being brutally murdered in a premeditated ambush on the streets of Fallujah, Iraq. Steeled in his resolve, Chad committed himself to completing the US military’s most difficult training to become a Navy SEAL - and avenge his friend’s death.

One of only 13 out of a class of 173 to make it straight through to graduation, Chad went on to serve on SEAL Teams 1 and 7, completing tours of duty in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and finally Iraq. There, Chad’s journey came full circle when his team was ambushed by enemy machine gunners - close to the same road where his hero had been killed five years earlier.

SEAL of God follows Chad’s extraordinary journey through 25 grueling weeks of BUD/S training and onto the hostile streets of Al Anbar Province, Iraq, where he witnessed the horrors of war up close. Along the way, Chad shares his own radical conversion story and discovers the true meaning of ultimate sacrifice.

from professional skate boarder to SEAL

First, I'm not sure why reviewer Tim was surprised at the Christian aspect of this book since God is in the title. Anyway, It was interesting to see this guy go from professional skate boarder, and stoner to a SEAL. I wanted to cry over the sweet friendship/mentor/mentee relationship with Scott Helvenston (former SEAL and Blackwater contractor killed in Iraq). There were also funny parts from his childhood such as a bad run-in with a homemade 'rocket' made with a paper towel tube.

There's a lot of technical information such as he goes into detail about diving equipment, technique and firearms.

I didn't expect the narration of be A+ since this is narrated by the author, but it gives the audiobook a more personal feel.

A personal and very honest introspection

Chad Williams boldly holds nothing back... except for the expletives of his instructors, fellow candidates and colleagues in the Seals.

This story is an exceptional witness of living as a Christian in a very tough environment. I found the story very encouraging and recommend reading this if you have any testosterone flowing through your veins.

I was there

Where does Seal of God rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

What a cool story about life. Why is it that the kids that hate authority the most always seem to want to go into the toughest of the military. This is a great read that is read by the author. I really enjoyed the story and could relate to the changes and trials in his life.

What other book might you compare Seal of God to and why?

No Easy Day, Many of the same issues and experiences

Which character – as performed by Chad Williams – was your favorite?

Chad Williams

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would have if I could have. I listen in the car and got to my destination too soon.

Great story for any listener

My whole family loved this story by Chad. This story really is for anyone. I've got three girls who really got into the story. Chad doesn't curse or dwell on any topic too long to be overly concerned for young ears. sure, some topics give you a discussion opportunity with your kids but nothing too sticky.

Must read!

Riveting narration, and inspiring story! Chad gives us an example of how the negative aspects of a strong will can be changed to a positive (hanging on through tough SEAL training) and then mellowed when submitted under God. Thanks for sharing your life story so honestly, Chad! God bless you!

God always has a better plan for us

I know how we feel when we have plans for our own life but Jesus has a better one. Good book and testimony of how Gods guiding Hand is always there but we don't see it until we gone through the path that was laided before us.

Inspiring and encouraging

This book was awesome! I really enjoyed learning about Chad's experiences in BUD/S and as a SEAL. His conversion story was truly a wonderful account of God's mercy for sinners, and his commitment to his God, country, family, and Scott Helvenston was truly inspiring. I hope to be able to meet Chad one day, shake his hand, and thank him for his service and for fighting for freedom. More importantly, I hope to encourage him as he serves our great God, reaches out to the lost, and works to further the kingdom of God. Hooyah, Chad!
