Publisher's Summary

A totally relatable essay on showing up to adult life alone, by the singular (and single) writer, producer, and star of Late Night.

In lieu of a perfect, hypothetical future husband, Mindy Kaling is thinking a lot about being single. Pros? She can marathon any Christine Baranski show she wants. Cons? Dealing with married couples and their condescension at cocktail parties. But until a gorgeous, morally flawless, preferably tall TV dad materializes in three dimensions, Mindy can cope with waiting it out (from the driver’s seat).

From the acclaimed writer, actor, director, producer, and New York Times bestselling author comes Nothing Like I Imagined. In these essays, Mindy Kaling shares the latest chapters of a multitasking life in Hollywood. Listen to them in a single sitting. They’re pitch-perfect.

find out who Mindy liked

Even celebs have celeb crushes. Narrated by the author, short story feels like a phone call with the actress about her day. Tidbits about her life in each page.

She's Fun !

Who wouldn't want to go to a party with Mindy? Just don't pity her single motherhood. What it comes down to is there are pros and cons to every lifestyle.

Thought-provoking commentary from a single mom

It's interesting to hear about the challenges of a completely single mother, who doesn't have an ex-husband or in-laws in the picture at all. She goes through the pros and cons in an amusing way.

Like a Conversation with a Dear Friend

Every time I read anything by Mindy Kaling, it feels like talking to a dear friend. She tells it like it is, in every book and essay- Mindy style!

I like this quick, tasty bite she's written and narrated for Audible. The "Coach Taylor" thread pulled throughout the essays is a clever device. This is excellent storytelling by one my favorite authors. Highly recommended.

Made me love Mindy AND my husband even more

This was a sweet and funny story that made me appreciate many relationships - my husband, my daughter who was just watching Elmo yesterday and is now on the couch reading Pride and Predudice, my 90 year old lightly senile mother, and my in-laws. Mindy is articulate and honest and leaves you with an upbeat feeling of gratitude. (And who doesn’t love Coach Taylor?)

Brilliant!

It makes me want to watch Friday Night Lights again, too! Brilliant essay, just different, not better or worse.
