The best yet!!

Well, what can I say? As usual Melinda has given us a book that keeps the pages turning and the reader on the edge of their seat. I’m sure I was NOT alone there.

Morgan and Kruger are on a case, one not too far off from the others that they’ve been on. A son accused of killing his stepdad who happens to be a cop. The evidence and the guy feelings of the troubled twosome send them out to find he truth.

As they usually do, Morgan and Kruger find themselves in a tangled web of lies and secrets that not only put them in more danger but put a crunch on their timeline to find a killer before he strikes again.

Excellent, as always!

I love these Morgan Dane novels. They are well thought out, intelligent and humorous. The children are believable, the relationships are endearing, the characters are realistic. This story has many different unraveled strings that need to be pulled together to find the answers. It is great.

I love the recurring characters in this series

Evan Meade is a troubled young man. He is angry that his biological father is granted visitation rights after he is released from prison. His anger manifests with him challenging Paul, his stepfather’s curfew. One night he comes home late, feeling guilty, and ready to apologize to Paul. Instead, he witnesses Paul’s murder. Even though Evan escapes, he is afraid to go to the police because he saw the badge on the murderer’s belt.

When she comes home to find her husband murdered, Tina Meade contacts Lance Kruger, Evan’s hockey coach and a private investigator. Lance, Morgan Dane, and Lincoln Sharp work together at Sharp Investigations. Lance is convinced that Evan is innocent, but the evidence is pointing to him. Evan is wounded and the weather is working against him. The Sharp team know they are working against the clock to find Evan and get him medical aid.

I am a big fan of this series. I like the way Melinda Leigh is developing the romance between Lance and Morgan, and the entire family dynamics, both blood and friend, in this series. The blending of the main characters with their past relationships, children, and family is realistic and gripping. Morgan’s family is close and supportive of one another. They are a family of law enforcement. Lance’s mother is an agoraphobic, and often uses her technology skills to help with research.
Dane and Lance’s romance is important to the series, but the mystery is always central to the story. The story moves at a fast, steady pace. There are some tense moments then some twists appear that make the reader wonder what really happened. Secrets Never Die has the right mix of mystery, bad cops, secrets, twists, and romance to keep the reader engaged from beginning to end.

The Morgan Dane series is one of my favorites, like the other books in this series, Secrets Never Die held me captive with characters I love, a setting that drops me right in the action, the clues are set up in a way that made me wonder. I solved the mystery a couple pages before the main characters. After five books in the series, I’m invested in the main characters that feel like friends now. I can’t wait for the next book.

Cris Dukehart does a good job. I like her Morgan voice best, but she does justice to all the cast of characters. She tells the story in a smooth rhythmic voice that gives emotion and drama to the story.

Review of book

I liked the story overall. Melinda needs to write the main characters a little smarter. They are always walking into traps and they lose way too many fights. With all the practice they get, they should win every fight. Their bodies would not survive all these confrpntations.
