The best yet!!
Well, what can I say? As usual Melinda has given us a book that keeps the pages turning and the reader on the edge of their seat. I’m sure I was NOT alone there.
Morgan and Kruger are on a case, one not too far off from the others that they’ve been on. A son accused of killing his stepdad who happens to be a cop. The evidence and the guy feelings of the troubled twosome send them out to find he truth.
As they usually do, Morgan and Kruger find themselves in a tangled web of lies and secrets that not only put them in more danger but put a crunch on their timeline to find a killer before he strikes again.

Excellent, as always!
I love these Morgan Dane novels. They are well thought out, intelligent and humorous. The children are believable, the relationships are endearing, the characters are realistic. This story has many different unraveled strings that need to be pulled together to find the answers. It is great.

Another E-Ticket Ride!
This author continues to delight with her stories of strong, loyal, and faithful men and women who go to heroic measures to do the right thing. The Morgan Dane series, with whip-smart, strong as steel Morgan and her equally brilliant, tough, and tender PI boyfriend Lance is just the ticket for me.
With each new addition to the series, the diverse cast of characters grows more unique and personable. Some are starting to feel like old friends. Some I wouldn't trust with yesterday's garbage. But all of them combine around a tightly written plot to provide just what I want out of a thriller. The plot twists keep me turning pages (or listening, in my case), there's plenty of suspense and small town idiocy to keep me on my toes, plus a bit of romance between Morgan and Lance. It's a great blend, making this probably my favorite of the series so far.

Thrilling to the end!
Evan Meade returns home late one night after hanging out with his friends only to witness the brutal murder of his stepfather, a retired deputy sheriff. The 16-year old literally runs for his life with the killer in pursuit. Private Investigator Lance Kruger is called to help by Evan’s mother when she comes home to the carnage and attorney Morgan Dane, his fiancée, accompanies him to the scene. They arrive before law enforcement who makes it clear that Evan is their primary suspect. As Lance and Morgan work to find Evan, they also know finding the actual murderer is paramount to protecting him. However, the deeper they probe, the more confounding and sinister the situation becomes.
The opening of this story was chilling and concern for Evan started immediately. We know he isn’t the killer and that kept me on edge for the rest of the story. It becomes extremely dangerous for Lance, Morgan and fellow investigator Lincoln Sharp who has also involved Olivia Cruz, the reporter who helped them in an earlier case and seems to have attracted Sharp’s attention in a personal way. Things get scary as old connections to Evan’s mother emerge who deserve to be feared.
The pace of the story kept me engaged as there weren’t many decent stopping points. It was exciting and thrilling, though some of the chase scenes got a bit complicated for me. There were softer moments, however, as Lance’s relationship with Morgan’s daughters deepen and he begins to develop paternal bonds. It was a sweet aspect that provided relief to all that tension. I also liked what appears to be something growing between Sharp and Olivia. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving character. As usual, the narrator delivered a fine performance, her storytelling skills put to the test. I enjoyed this one even as it took some time for the facts to unfold.

Great mystery
Another great Morgan Dane book. I enjoyed how the book started with a murder mystery immediately like the other books in the series. Morgan and Lance are searching for a teenager, Evan, who is the primary suspect in the gruesome murder of his stepfather. Evan's mothers past comes back to haunt them both and the secrets she's kept for so many years resurface. Morgan and Lance race to find the true killer before the killer can finish the job they started.
