Publisher's Summary

Hunt the mesmer. Free the captives. Be the hero you never wanted to be.

It's been 10 days since Jade finally got out. Out of the bed she spent her life trapped in, out of the hospital, and now out of the city, the walls, and way outside of her comfort zone.

The wilderness is a terrifying place, especially when you're hunting mesmer...and everything else is hunting you. Unfortunately, getting out of the forest won't get her out of the woods. She’ll need to navigate court politics and foreign policy if she wants to come out in one piece. Paving a way through state affairs will prove at least as difficult as trying to find her way through Basaigh Woods.

Andara’s newest traveler has a lot on her plate; it’s a good thing she’s hungry for adventure!

Stats suffered

I enjoyed this book quite a lot and loved the narration but not as much as the first two as I found the stats suffered and was a bit more predictable.

One issue I had is that at the beginning of book 1 it said that a stat of ten was average for most people and in this book you have many characters with stats well below this even at 1-3 that are still warriors which seems strange as it would makes sense that with stats that low they would be severely disadvantaged and not fit to fight.

Also there are several skills that she trains herself without siphoning that are going up much too fast in comparison to other people. Such as a level or two a day. If everyone had this pace there would be many people with much higher level skills than is presented considering that they train for years. (I love the siphoning idea though she will be godlike)

Thirdly I would think there would be curfews for magical people considering the mesmer.

Otherwise I like inventions and history that was presented in this book and I dont mind the cliff hangers.
