Publisher's Summary

An all-new audio version of one of the key titles in the entire Forgotten Realms novel line.

At the time of its original release, this series presented key events that impacted the entire Forgotten Realms world, and the effects of those events are still felt in current novels. This title was originally released under the author's pseudonym, Richard Awlinson.

When the gods are banished from the heavens, they must travel through Faern in the guise of mortals.

When four companions, last survivors of the Company of the Lynx, find themselves in possession of a mysterious amulet, they must escape death at the hand of Bane, god of murder.

When magic itself runs wild, no one can say that the most innocent of spells will not destroy the world.

Who hired this narrator?

It's difficult for me to say how much I enjoyed this novel, as it was exceedingly painful to listen to this amazingly awful reading. Whoever hired this narrator should be fired.

The narrator is dreadful. Listened for nostalgia

After finishing The Icewinddale Trilogy with a great narrator, I wanted to revisit this classic from years ago. The reviews portrayed the narrator to be awful. I thought it couldn't be that bad. She's worse.

Meanwhile after reading LoTR and David Eddings work, comparatively this was a poorly written book. It was made to order by DND back in the day to fit their Forgotten Realms story. Worth the listen only for the die hard fans.

Good story but the narration is rough

I've been listening to the Elminster series for awhile now and many books in I've had to go back and try to find stories earlier in the Fehrun timeline, because those books talk about greater stories having happened than what they are.
To be quite honest I found Scott's story to be far more interesting than Ed's have been. It's still a tad cumbersome in regularly referencing forgettable characters we're supposed to care about, but it's a good and interesting progression in a descriptive telling of wild magic happenings.

The narration is rough. It starts out for several chapters as those she's just barely more lively than a Google/Alexa home speaker. After a couple of chapters I looked up who narrates the rest of Audible's copies of this Avatar series and it's the same woman. I considered bailing on the whole series barely two chapters in, if I'm honest. However, it does pick up from there. So eventually she finds her footing and becomes more expressive. I just don't know that I'm liking it still.

I will probably still continue to book two of the series, but if I could find another version with a new narrator, I would.

Narrator has zero personality

I didn’t know a woman could be so monotone. Love the series, not the narrator
