The arrival of a very important person in her office seemed to be the start of a lot of problems for Kit Colbana, investigator extraordinaire. Claiming that he needed somebody with her special skillset, he sends her on a series of jobs that made little to no sense until one culminated with both her and her partner, Justin, barely escaping with their lives.

Back in Orlando, they go their separate ways to recover, Justin heading to the house of a local witch, while Kit returns to the Lair, where she's recently been living with her lover Damon, the Alpha of the Southern Cat Clans.

Doyle's character description suddenly went from an orange tiger in the first 4 books to white with no explanation. I've listened to all 5 books in the series, and I do enjoy the concepts and storyline. The side bar character descriptions and background bios I can understand repeat so each book can stand alone; however, they repeat almost word for word and occur more than once per book which make it feel like filler. For example, when kit feels tension and has multiple side bars of "wanted to hit something" but doesn't in the same exchange. There were other characters and concepts that could have been explained a bit more like Frankie and owing her a favor... for the healing? Was there a deal made previously that wasn't mentioned after she woke up on the floor from a healing with an angry bouncer demanding a speedy exit?

Whatever, I still enjoyed the series. I like that this character didn't have to suddenly become pregnant just because she's in a cohabitation relationship.
