Publisher's Summary
In the new novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling series, Lt. Eve Dallas is about to walk into the shadows of her husband’s dangerous past....
While Eve examines a fresh body in Washington Square Park, her husband, Roarke, spots a man among the onlookers he’s known since his younger days on the streets of Dublin. A man who claims to be his half brother. A man who kills for a living - and who burns with hatred for him.
Eve is quick to suspect that the victim’s spouse - resentful over his wife’s affair and poised to inherit her fortune - would have happily paid an assassin to do his dirty work. Roarke is just as quick to warn her that if Lorcan Cobbe is the hitman, she needs to be careful. Law enforcement agencies worldwide have pursued this cold-hearted killer for years, to no avail. And his lazy smirk when he looked Roarke’s way indicates that he will target anyone who matters to Roarke...and is confident he’ll get away with it.
Eve is desperate to protect Roarke. Roarke is desperate to protect Eve. And together, they’re determined to find Cobbe before he finds them - even if it takes them across the Atlantic, far outside Eve’s usual jurisdiction....

I'm a huge Eve Dallas Fan
The story in and of itself is enjoyable as always. I have read every single one, in order.
However, the narration was tortuous. I forced myself to listen for several chapters, but in the end just couldn't listen any longer. I went out and bought the book. Read it from cover to cover and will never again purchase an Eve Dallas audio book.

Still listening after 50+ books...
...and that fact should say it all!!
I've grown to love this world, the characters who occupy it, and the narrator who helps add just that...extra touch, it's perfect for 'Robb's' world & it's characters. (If you have the opportunity/option to listen, I would take it!)
Anyway, after thoroughly enjoying this particular book, I just wanted to say thanks to the author and narrator (etc) for rarely -if ever - boring me... EVEN AFTER 50+ BOOKS!! Well done 👏

It's good
Good book, but not excellent
The story is a bit different from most, which is good, but I just didn't think it was good enough for 5 stars
Performer is quite good, as always

First and Last Eve Dallas
I read almost exclusively crime novels and not all need to be NYT best sellers, or even close, but this will be my first and last Eve Dallas experience. I almost didn’t finish it. The story is really loosely crafted and unbelievable, I couldn’t connect to the characters, and the references to food and drink was oddly heavy, while the rest was lacking in detail. Maybe it’s because I didn’t start at book 1, but I didn’t enjoy this one.

I loved this audio book
My first JD Robb narrated story but it won't be my last. I love the series, but really wasn't sure how it would play out with audio. I was impressed! I hope the same narrator continues with the next riveting tale of Roarke and Eve!

Have enjoyed this series from the first book!
I love Eve Dallas books and am always so thrilled to see there is a new installment! I must admit that I had a bit of a hard time warming up to the performance but I do now enjoy how she reads and her voices for each character. Please continue with this series JD Robb! Fantastic!

Another good read
For such a lot of books in this series, I’m amazed that it never gets boring.
There are so many regular characters that are used in different stories that you feel you know them all well.
The trick is that they are used sometimes sparingly & sometimes a lot. Keeps it interesting.

loved it!
I don't know what it is about this series but I cannot put her books down once I have started new one. Finished this one in a couple days. It's an easy and intriguing listen. The narration as per usual is top notch. I wish Nora Roberts could pump out more of these faster! Lol

Impressive maturity
I’ve been rereading this series and, while Shadows in Death bears some similarities to early books, say, Judgement in Death (I think. The titles blur), the strides Roarke and Eve have made are pretty impressive. The shift in maturity, relationship stability, and the empathy of each character shows the incremental shifts the characters experienced as the 50+ book series. While other mystery novelists have their characters hip deep in downed relationships and substance abuse by book 10 in a series, Roberts has Eve and Roarke expanding their circle of close friends, opening up to new possibilities, and making positive changes to the world around them, and that is why I will stick with this series for another 50 books.

the best in death story in years! excellent!
Nora Robert's writing as JD Robb just put out one of the best - probably my favorite - Eve Dallas book. A truly unique, new plot, with no predictable turns or dialog. This is the most fresh Eve Dallas book in a very long time my opinion. (a compliment, not a veiled insult)
No spoilers - but right up to the last scene, JD Robb grew our favorite characters, making me want to immediately return to chapter one and go through the story just one more time. 😀
And, once again Susan Erickson brings the story to life - with each of character richly distinctive. She has kept the voices and personalities so consistent over the years which has solidified each character into beloved friends in the hearts of In Death's vast listening audience.

Killer for hire
Excellent book in the In Death series. First of all, Eve was not as snarky as usual, and was not so mean to people, except for those who deserved it. It was an interesting storyline about a killer for hire who Roark knew from his childhood. He was an evil man and very slippery to catch. The well loved cast of characters from the previous books were involved. Galahad the fat cat was searching for food and hogging the bed. Summerset, Roark's father figure, and Man of the Roark house, is one of my favorite characters. In this book he continues his battle with Eve and continues to win, in my opinion. There was only one thing I did not like and that was the hit man's treatment of animals - evil. But it was not dwelled upon too long. There were parts that were rather sappy and maudlin, such as the school for troubled kids and Eve/Roark's over the top love for one another. It was okay though because there is always a little sappy stuff in the In Death books and I have become fairly accustomed to it. I listened almost not stop and it is a long book. I was really hooked by the story.
Susan Erickson is excellent as performer. I am amazed at how she can change her voice, even her personality, for the various characters. I can recognize who is talking just by the voice. Her performance of Dr. Mira is outstanding. It is uncannily distinctive and good. If Erickson ever quits narrating this series, then it should just end. She has been a major reason In Death has been so successful.

Awesome! 💀💀💀💀💀
Go Team NYPSD!
JD Robb strikes again. Five skulls rating.
Lorcan Cobb is a contract killer with a penchant for stickers. His history with Roarke goes back to the alleyways of Dublin.
Cobb has a serious hate on for everything Roarke is and all he has.
When he arrives in NYC... (spoilers deleted). 😁

They just get better
Lots of Irish in this book and I loved it. Narrator does a great job with Roarks voice, along with his family. A man from Roarks past is back and is ready to take out Roark and those he loves. Cobb claims to be Patrick Roarks oldest son, though Patrick never claimed him. Cobb was the cause of additional beatings for Roark and also set the things in motion that lead Roark to Somerset.
Cobb, a hired killer, is in New York on a job. Eve is on the case and Roark was at crime scene when Cobb spotted him. A cat and mouse games ensues and ends up pulling in Whitney and Feeney and Eves entire team as they protect their own. Even when that entails a spontaneous trip across the ocean.
Loved the book. looking forward to the next.

I was surprised at the choice Eve made.
I won't spoil it but this was not close to the quality of most of the other books in the series. I think the story was slow and without many of the great personalities that surround Eve and Roarke. Also I don't believe rule driven Eve was in character with the choice she made at the end. I was shocked by it. I'll still keep reading Nora and Robb hoping for better

Still quality entertainment
Robb does a great job providing another installment of NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke. The Publisher’s Summary gives accurate basic info on the storyline.
Ericksen started out a bit rocky on the narration but quickly smoothed out into her top notch delivery of many voices and emotions.

Another good listen
This book was such a good listen that I polished it off in one day. There have been a couple of recent books in this series that almost duplicated previous scenarios so its refreshing to see a completely new plot line. Now I just have to wait for the next one.
