One of my favourite books. The reader was terrible. And her voices were among the worst I've ever listened to. It was painful to get through. I'll stick to reading this one myself. So disappointed after waiting for this with delay after delay

Bad narrator

The premise is actually quite interesting as a young woman who desires freedom makes a bold decision to marry a condemned prisoner. However from the first scene with both main characters the dynamic between the two is uncomfortable, forced and does not have any genuine areas for growth. The romantic/ sex scenes start with rape, that the fmc eventually feels guilty about and she ‘owes’ the mmc more.
The narration is actually quite good (despite what the other reviews say) and is the reason I listened as long as I did. The narrator did take some chances with very different accents but it was interesting and helped keep the story going.
I did not finish listening and plan to get a refund though as the story itself is nearly impossible to sit through.

It seems ALL the audio versions of Kathleen Woodiwiss lovely novels are VERY badly performed. This one has to be the worst. This narrator has no concept of of how to deliver accents, there were moments that I had no idea what she was even saying.
If you love Kathleen's books - don't even try to these travesties - save your credit for something worth while!
