À propos de cet audio

A haunting tale of suspense, rendered with the masterful skill only Barker could muster.

After the loss of his parents, young Jack Thatch first met Stella as a child - this cryptic little girl of eight with dark hair and darker eyes, sitting alone on a bench in the cemetery clutching her favorite book. Gone moments later, the brief encounter would spark an obsession. She'd creep into his thoughts, his every waking moment, until he finally finds her again exactly one year later, sitting upon the same bench, only to disappear again soon after.

The body of a man found in an alley, every inch of his flesh horribly burned, yet his clothing completely untouched. For Detective Faustino Brier, this wasn't the first, and he knew it wouldn't be the last. It was no different from the others. He'd find another just like it one year from today. August 9, to be exact.

Isolated and locked away from the world in a shadowy lab, a little boy known only as Subject "D" waits, grows, learns. He's permitted to speak to no one. He has never known the touch of another. Harboring a power so horrific, those in control will never allow him beyond their walls.

All of them linked in ways unimaginable.

She Has a Broken Thing Where Her Heart Should Be conjures thoughts of early King and Koontz. A heart-pounding ride that creeps under your skin and will have you listening long into the night.

Bought it twice. Listening to it once. One of the best books I have ever experienced.

Unreal book.

I've heard JD Barker on the Podcast Writer's Inc but never read his work. This was my first foray into his writing, and I was very impressed. The characters are complex, the plot even more so. After this I moved onto his 4MK series, just hoping these would be as good as this one, and I wasn't disappointed.

This one made me a fan!

amazing story and character development. The narration was also very good. My only thing with the book was it was a bit long so I did speed up the book and that helped. I love the ending and I would definitely recommend this book.

Enjoyed the book from beginning to end. Some books you just forget about but this one was special for me.
Easy to follow characters and not drawn out. I would highly recommend this book even though it's got a weird title.

Very well written

Excellent plot, lots of twists I didn’t see coming and I was kept guessing right up until the end. Characters and narration were perfection! Hoping this becomes a series.

Excellent!

Sooooo long and boring..

I have a rule that typically I follow, which is, I give a book 100 pages. If after 100 pages I’m thinking, this book is stupid, this book is confusing, this book is boring, I have no idea what’s going on, or I hate all these characters, I stop reading. This book has all of those. I have no idea who David is or what he’s gonna mean to the story and I have no patience to find out, Jack’s aunt is dying slowly from lung cancer we can all see it, but I have no idea what that has to do with the story either. his parents are dead and he has these dreams where he’s in the car when they die. Or was he dropped off to his aunt before they died? What does that mean? Who knows, part of the mystery I guess.

Jack’s eight and apparently has this mad crush on Stella even though she is rude, mean and openly tells him he’s classless and dumb, that seems to draw him in more. I guess the title makes sense when you think of how she behaves.

We have people leaving money in their apartment.. a bribe? Who knows, But 8 yo jack doesn’t even think to tell his aunt that someone is breaking into their apartment when they aren’t home. Alas, the mind of a child. Things that are mildly unpleasant to them is highly dangerous and disturbing to an adult.

I was waiting for the juicy stuff to start, like the murders, or for Jack to get older and things to start making sense, but even at 20 chapters in and all I’m getting is eight year-old Jack, Stella who loves reading Wuthering Heights and a whole slew of side characters.

I wish this book had older characters. The nonsensical interactions between jack and his best friend dunk nearly made me lose some brain cells.

Boring
