Aegis woke up with the powers of a god. But what good is that if the one person he cares for is stuck in another world?

With a shield as his weapon and a bleeding heart as his curse, Aegis starts his journey by taking beatings that no man ever should to protect those in need. After learning to use his ice infusion, imbuing his own weapons and those of his fool hardy friends to slash through high-level monsters, others start to notice something special about him: Aegis can perform abilities beyond his character’s level.

But when he finds out his brother Roy is sick and dying in the world he left behind, he must find the will of a leader and do all that he can to save him.

Will he find a way to connect with his family and bridge two worlds? Or will he fail, doomed to a fate worse than death?

...but the writing was very simple. I suppose it is a writing style but everything was written bluntly and dramatically! The story concept was solid and a very cool idea. I'll categorize it as a solid filler book.

I really enjoyed this one. The story was fun and there were interesting moments throughout. the performance by Heath Miller was excellent! He really brought the characters to life.

A great listen

I recently discovered Heath Miller's voice from another series, He Who Fights with Monsters. In this other series, I was so pleasantly surprised by his performance that I decided to try this book. It was another great performance by Heath Miller! I would say though, the story felt a little bit flat to me until the last 3-4 hours. I will say that those last hours were more than enough to get me to listen to the second book in the series. What a way to end book 1!
