Story
Shannon Hammer is about to embark on one of the biggest projects of her career. Her best friend Jane Hennessey has purchased one wing of the Gables, formerly the old state insane asylum, located on a bucolic hillside two miles northeast of Lighthouse Cove. Jane plans to turn her section into a small luxury hotel. Shannon is raring to get started on the enormous project and is shocked when a group of unruly protesters shows up at the groundbreaking ceremony and wreaks havoc. She’s even more freaked out when someone pushes her into a pit of bricks in a closed-off room of the asylum.

Assisting an overwhelmed insurance appraiser with the inventory, Addie discovers an 1887 magazine containing Arthur Conan Doyle's first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet, which she estimates to be worth over $150,000. But when Addie later finds the appraiser dead in the estate's private library, with the door bolted from the inside, and the priceless edition missing, it's a mystery worthy of the Great Detective himself. She's certain the death and the robbery are connected - but who, other than a ghost who can walk through walls, could have gotten in to do the deed?

Something has changed
...and not just the narrator. After six books with the same narrator and associating the changes of her voice with each character this was not pleasant.
I had also got to a point in book six that I felt the author was giving us readers to much minute detail of the different scenarios that the character was involved in. This seventh book was much worse. I literally was using the fast forward option for the first time for I felt that I felt I was being lectured on “being green”. No thank you. If I choose to learn (useless) information I will take a class not listen to a cozy mystery. I continued to the end as I wanted to see how Shannon & Mac’s relationship developed but I feel there was little or no growth there.
Very disappointing and just one more thought, does everyone in Lighthouse Cove jog? Mac jogged here, Eric jogged there and Shannon jogged somewhere!

Mehh
I've liked her stories before. I have listened to several in this series.
This one starts out with just too much building detail. I was kind of bored by it. Then the narrator does not do male voices very well. Characters started sounding rather dim-witted. that was when I realized that this is a different reader from the previous books. So is possible that this book is as good as the others in the series...

Fun story and characters hurt by poor narrator
I've enjoyed all of books in this series. Fun cozy mysteries and enjoyable to listen to normally. This new narrator made most of the male voices sound weirdly munchkin-esque. The narrator lacks the ability to nuance her voice and create an enjoyable cast of character voices. She made Emily and Jane sound like two gruff men. It made this particular book rather grating to listen to even though I had initially been excited to see a new book in this series. I hope the series will continue, but PLEASE choose a more accomplished narrator!

I wanted to like it; but did not. The story was not intriguing, the characters blended together. The narration didn’t help because the voice characterizations were either nonexistent or just didn’t make sense.

Not very impressed.
The story being told was great, but the telling of it wasnt very well done. Sometimes she spoke too fast sometimes there were long breaks between thoughts. The different voices she did were also off. I like this book series so I hope the next book is done better.

Couldn’t finish it.
This is the 6th or 7th in the series I’ve listened to. I struggled to finish the last one because of the narration. I couldn’t finish thus one and I’m returning it. The last one was tough because the last narrator had difficulty differentiating between the two primary female characters. This narrator was fine at differentiating between the characters, and her main character was great, but many of the other characters just sounded ridiculous and annoying. This writer has several characters that each speak in their own voice and I think it’s just tough on the narrators to come up with multiple good voices. The first 4 or 5 in the series were fine but the last two were difficult. I won’t be trying any more in this series. I’m not sure why whoever is producing these, or whoever is approving the narrator, isn’t able to see that. But maybe it’s just me since these last two books do appear to get good reviews for the most part.
